How often do you lube your chain?

Dupont Teflon Chain Saver Lubricant
- after every other tank of gas and after washing it or after riding in the rain.

I actually use the same product to clean the chain. Just use lots of rags and completely saturate the chain then wipe it off. It comes out as clean as pretty much any other method.

If I really want to clean it completely, I use WD-40 on a rag or kerosine in a spray bottle.

So the way that everyone does this on their own is with a back stand? I guess I'm going to have to go get one... Hence the second person required. One walker, one sprayer. Is the crappy tire one okay or is there a recommended option for cruisers?

from what i know and have been told, the sport bike rear stands don't work on cruisers...the only other option is a jack...i even bought the tire/chain cleaner stand (rollastand) from princess auto but the tire doesn't turn like they make you think it does, so i have to return it...

When travelling I've used a piece of wood (2x4) under the side stand, push the bike up on that and prop something under the right side (against the frame or engine). I've used milk crates, buckets, blocks of wood, and once, in a pinch a piece of 2x4 on end (that was risky and wobbly and made me a very worried cat - but it worked).

Also, I've always ridden sport bikes and I'm big. Leaning the bike up on the side stand is not hard for me. A 400kg behemoth may be another story I guess.

At home I use a shop stand.

Oh, and I lube mine with Teflon about every 600km. or so. I think most folks get more than a bit enthusiastic about how frequently it should be done. THough you gotta contrast that with those that do it every 10k or so. :)

if i lubed each tank, there would be MANY times i would be lubing 2 times in a single day or 10-15 times in a week.. Excessive? I think so. I normally do it the 1st and 15th of each month. With additional oiling after driving in rain

My girlfriend and i have a long distance relationship so i have to lube my own chain more often that i would prefer unfortunately. Oh wait.. wrong forum.. :sad1:

I lube the chain once every two weeks after a long ride. I also check the chain and sprocket for wear and adjust chain tension if required.

Every 1000k I lube. But try to get yourself some kerosene. Its what I use to clean the chain which may take some time but you can inspect your links.sprockets carefully.

I only lubed my first chain every 1000 km, and it died on me at 30,000km.

I won't do that again. it's better to lube it more often than not.
I know guys that lube it after every ride.

I lube mine once every 500-700km, depending. Or any time after it rains. Clean the chain every second lube. I use Motul lube and Chain cleaner. This to me is a simple task, adjusting chain slack on the other hand took me some time to get my technique down.

wah, you ride a busa and your chain lasted that long...i'm impressed...

i didn't know at first with my bike, enough of the maintenance...so the shop gave me a can of lube and told me to do it once every 500 to 1000km...i got about 25K out of it. alas i didn't do any cleaning of the chain, just sprayed on the lube, mechanic told me to apply the lube to the inside of the chain. i'd just put the bike up on the rear stand, click it into first gear, let it turn and spray the lube onto the chain.

Dupont Teflon Multi-Use Lubricant works for me, about every 300-500km. Get it at Lowes for about six bucks a can.

Here's something to consider for those without a stand of some sort:

Not such a great idea. Beware: http://www.gtamotorcycle.com/vbforu...-finger-while-cleaning&highlight=chain+finger

Everyone always says to use the teflon multi-lube, but I feel like the teflon chain-saver is so much better

Thicker than the multi-lube and it still doesn't spray around everywhere

Apparently it is better, ever since DuPont changed the formula on its original Multi-Lube.
The WebBikeWorld article was a real eye opener.

Great stuff as well, but I hear it's sticker and thus will attract more dirt.

I haven't used the multi-use, only the chain-saver, but my chain is clean as a whistle using this stuff!
