How often do you lube your chain?

Wow, some crazy bad advice in this thread. For goodness sake people please ensure that your bike is off and in neutral when cleaning and lubing your chain. (everyone should love their fingers) There is a three sided brush called "The Grunge Brush" which is great for cleaning. They sell this brush at GP Bikes. It's a little expensive at approx. $16 though.

I am nowhere near your mileage - i put may be 20K a year tops but looking forward to increase it.
How many cans do you use on average per year?

I honestly don't keep track of it. I know I ran out part way through a 10,000 km ride last September but for various reasons I didn't start with a fresh can.

Here, fixed that for ya .

There is a three sided brush called "The Grunge Brush" which is great for cleaning. They sell this brush at GP Bikes. It's a little expensive at approx. $16 though.

This doesn't need fixing, just an amendment. Do not use rugs or anything else that can get caught between the chain and the sprocket. A good manual spin of the wheel is all you need to loose your fingers - inertia is a bi**h.

Bottom line, if you are that paranoid and/or risk averse maybe it's time to consider a shaft drive bike. Or a car. Or a tank.

I couldn't care less how or whether you lube/clean your chain and I do not force anyone to do it my way. I just described how I've been doing it for 30 years and millions of kilometers.

I still have all my fingers. You can take care of yours whichever way you see fit.

Unfortunately pictures/videos of me loobing my chain with bike in gear and spinning the rear wheel wouldn't be nearly as interesting as pictures of mangled fingers of people that need to be told where they shouldn't stick them...
