This was the first time for me, insurance shopping in ON. I got a lot of quotes from different companies; the cheapest was from Riderplus though NFP Moto was not far behind.

Prior experience not considered.

$1590/year, new M2, aged 36 - V Strom 650

:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: .... "not in Ontario". thats like saying "how is that a good deal? I paid 20 cents a litre for gas in 1988". Yeah Ontario insurance is the most expensive in Canada due to the government mandatory Accident Benefits. No matter where you live in Canada, people in Florida will look at your $375 rate and think thats expensive. But its not apples to apples, in most states insurance mostly covers dings to the bike. You get hurt? better call William Mattar cuz its a culture of suing each other. The insurance down there is just a piece of pink paper. In Canada insurance routinely pays out $85,000 bodily injury claims
One thing that drives me crazy is when insurance folks 'blame the gov't'. While it's true the past McGinty and Wynne saw AB as a tool for funding employment growth, insurers themselves have a huge part in price fixing. Nothing prevents insurance companies from providing umbrella liability, attaching A/B coverage to a person instead of their vehicle(s), or providing distance based or seasonal coverages.

Insurers and the IBC collaborate to make sure nobody gets too creative, and that new entrants or smaller creative insurers face near insurmountable obstacles.

It's simply time for reform. The FCSO needs consumer oversight, and we need a politician that has a bit of political capital to take on the challenge of brushing back a cartel.

Simple. KTM SuperDuke 1290 is only blacklisted by certain insurance companies (not all), the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R is blacklisted across the board by every single company. For example, I ride a BMW S1000R but the S1000RR (blacklisted - though essentially the same bike, both stupid fast) would be about $500 more on insurance.... for me anyways.
Simple ;) buying motorcycle insurance is like buying stock, on a stock market where the only guys that can buy that stock are insurance companies, who can have **** lists, set their own rules and a make a substantial annual profit or raise the rates to compensate for it next year.

Easy, everyone's crashing far more ZX10Rs into guard rails then SDR these days, so you pay more.
I think you mean FZ09's LOL... — apparently all the ZX-10R Samurais have been blacklisted across the board by every single company, our resident "insurance specialist" NFP Moto reports. Perhaps explains why you typically only see them at the track.

I have been calling insurance companies to see whats the cost now that I am 25, but it looks like 30 is the new 25. Looks like the cost to ride is at an all-time high. I used to use Aviva for my old bike but now they don't insure anyone under 6 years licensed.

How much do you pay for insurance?
I have been shopping around as I usually do when renewal time comes up. Currently paying 870$ a year on a 14 Ducati Multistrada with Allstate, but they've got my house and 2 autos as well.
After some shopping around within the last week or so, Wawanesa is the lowest thus far at 828$ with 2 mill liability. On a stand alone policy.
But I'm a old codger at 61 and have been licenced and riding since 16.
Hope that helps, try Wawanesa, they seem to be the cheapest going.

(y) That's the only reason you are with Wawa, they would not touch you otherwise.

I'm not with Wawa yet! My current policy doesn't expire till Mar 31. I've got a perfect record and plan on keeping it that way.
Which certainly helps. I just haven't got caught yet! Knocking on my wooden head.

Wawa will cover your "restricted" model bike if you are a senior citizen type with 7 years or more of continuous clean riding history. Others need not apply for that kind of consideration. They were not the cheapest on my 1986 K100RS but they will cover an old fart on an MV Agusta where nobody else will.

... just did a quick calculation of how much insurance I paid on just that one motorcycle since 1986
:/ it worked out to about $23,000 of pure profit for the insurance companies, great work if you can get it.

I'm with Wawa. 55 years old. Stand alone policy. Riding 5 years. Was the cheapest I found.

Currently with Allstate, they offered the best rates a few years back for me (2 cars, bike, home) but rates keep going up. Recently got a much better quote through Intact from Matthew Camacho so will likely be switching. 02 SV650S $82/m

Quicken tells me..........
  • Motorcycle, 2003 - present: $14,500
  • Other vehicles, 1993 - present: $63,000
Claims: Zero, nil, nothing.

If we all added up the money we paid for motorcycle insurance, you can quickly see why insurance companies own those big tall buildings that do nothing except move money.
