How many of you guys ride with cameras on your helmets?

On top of the helmet is begging to get pinched by Toronto’s finest. I see them grilling the kids with the mohawk and pony tail mods these days.
I agree, I don't put anything on my street helmet for that reason. But it's hard to compete with the convenience of the helmet as a mounting location if your primary desire is for a dashcam. I now run the 360 cam on the side of my trackbike fairing and it's good for what I want: seeing the relative speed of other bikes and seeing my own body position, but that mounting spot blocks seeing anything on the other side of the bike, so it wouldn't be great for street use.

I'm betting in a couple of years we'll see dedicated motorcycle dash cam systems using two 180 degree cameras, which would work really well mounted front/back or even left/right. You could get something pretty close to that today using two Insta360 Go cameras, although I suspect they aren't really suitable for on-bike use (limited internal battery, no automatic recording looping, not waterproof, etc).

edit: I see they've come now out with an Insta360 Go2 which is 4m waterproof and has a longer lasting battery, so that setup might be feasible today as a dashcam.

I love the cheesieness of the Insta360 promotional videos. Everyone looks so happy in them!

I rock chin mount, cops never seem much interested in it. But on top is asking for it IMO. lol

Can not complaining at the speed of the package. However for $140 it should also make me a cup of tea.
Next stop China.

Now that I think about it, two Insta360 GO2 cameras stuck flush on a helmet would be a pretty good setup if they were cheaper. They're much lower profile than anything else and wouldn't need to stick up/out at all.

360fly briefly had some sort of partnership with Bell to integrate their 270 degree camera into the top of a helmet. I don't know if any of these actually made it to the market or not:

Update of my returned Insta One 360 X2.
Having spent $140. to return it.
Took 5 days to get there, pretty fast. It is China.
2 days to hear from them to say there is nothing wrong with the camera. Are they going to say anything negative?
Now they want another $25 postage to return the it back to me.

My review.

Yes, it is a good camera, proving you do not have to return it. Customer service absolutely totally useless. there is no decent way to have an instant conversation. Generally it will take approximately 24 hours to get a return question answered.
There is no insurance if you crack/break the lens. Not in Canada. USA I think yes you can.
Probably, cost as much as a new camera. Taking postage, lens repair into account.

Has anyone contacted the helmet standards people and asked them if suction/velcro etc. cameras actually lower the effectiveness of helmets in a crash? I know the DOT standard says it must have a smooth shell, but camera's and most other add-ons become quickly detached when scraped. Seems awful silly to be ticketing people for it.

I rarely ride with a camera, but mine is handlebar mounted and designed to swivel so I can get great panoramas. I'm not much of an electric gadget techie so I really don't understand all my camera's features and how to properly edit vids, so the ones I do are pretty much like watching the grass grow.

Considering what happened with Michael Schumacher's skiing incident I don't think anyone wants to go on record saying whether its safe or not safe.
