how do car drivers act around you?

Just this morning on dvp i was riding beside a SUV, the driver had to roll up the driver side window cuz of the noise of my exhaust.

One of my buddies in the back went next to the shiny new car and shoved his boot so hard into the door it left a dent. A chase ensued after.

This riding technique should only be performed by people with experience in lowsiding, highsiding and rolling under truck wheels.

Just what the header says. My bike seems to bring out the jerk in a lot of car drivers lol.

Just one example I was doing an adequate speed down lakeshore tonight and some jerkhole almost caused an accident by passing me in the oncoming lane over a solid line. Or often drivers hammer down in their sedans when they get along side. Not too sure what they're trying to accomplish but I'm not even tempted. Could they possibly think they can beat a bike?

Always happens to me... I ride in the north york/markham area.
Red light, going the speed limit, following cars; they always seem to want a race out of it.

To answer your question, YES... YES they do think they can beat you. According to my girlfriend and her friend that lack general knowledge of cars, they think a bike is significantly slower than a car.:confused4:
Doesn't matter what bike or car

Oh its plausible. You cut them off and in retaliation they would take out your side mirror or a window with it on the next drive by. My uncle told me this during one of his bike story sessions..they called them traffic cops. It may not be as common of a practice now but back in the day..

I'm not sure what your uncle's "back in the day" was, but I've never seen or heard anyone actually do this in 35 years of riding in Southern Ontario. I've heard lots of bar talk about it, but nothing about an actual occurrence. I do know of one or two folks that busted a mirror off with their fist but that doesn't tend to go well, as the driver of the vehicle tries to drive you off the road with their two tonne advantage. :)

What is the iq of your gf and her friend?

Most cars have been more than courteous towards me. They leave me more than enough space and give me the right of way. If they *see* me, they give me space. There were a couple instances when someone came into my lane without checking their mirrors, but they weren't purposely trying to kill me.

Then again, I don't ride like an idiot in traffic and I don't p*ss ppl off.

That's a really nice way to respond to my post... I'm sad to say I was expecting it...

Most of the have master degrees and all have their bachelors so IQ shouldn't be too shabby. They're just not interested in the topic so they don't bother to knowing anything about it.

I assume this now for the general public, since most drivers in Toronto now get their license/car to get from point A - point B instead of for actually driving them.

I find the "what's faster - car or bike?" thing has lots of uninformed people (not necessarily IQ).

My bike is faster than nearly any car. But my car is faster than many bikes. And it isn't always easy to tell what is under the hood of that sedan or coupe beside you at the light. You may be surprised at how hard it can launch.

A lot of motorcyclists assume they can corner faster than any car too, I find. Again, not necessarily.

I would say a large majority of the time (80%+) an SS will beat a car. Braking, cornering, acceleration, everything. Once you actually get a car enthusiast with a decent setup, I'd imagine the story to be different but those are so rare. The majority of drivers use their vehicle as a means to an end. If we had more car enthusiasts, I'm sure we'd have less *** holes on the road.

Occasionally realllllly stooooopid. Either too cautious - geeeez lady you've been at the stop sign forever - go through it.....( see's a bike approaching on a four way stop - 100 meters away and freezes )

Or total ignore ( this weekend was loonie toons on long weekend returning traffic in the north )

I'm IN the intersection on a 4 way stop waiting to turn left and for the straight ahead guy to clear.....I start my turn and guy behind him just blows through the intersection ignoring the stop sign and me......
Lucky was not too far into the turn....saw his wife giving him ****....
I mean large twin headlights staring him right in the face ( he was in a small econbox ) and the Burgman is not exactly small.......makes ya wonder what goes through their heads.....

Was pleasantly surprised at the pace and very little passing on HWY 7 from the Ottawa area.

Course then I got near the GTA still at the north end of the city and one guy thinks it's fine to pass 100 m from the stoplight with a line of cars ahead of me and behind him.....like buddy - there's nowhere to go.....and then he crowded my lane and darted into a tiny space.
His "advantage" lasted about 2 seconds .was ****** as was not stressed at nice 1800km jaunt and he decides to dart around me for no good reason.

Nother pickup races to fit in behind me going around a dump truck on the right and the lane ran out.....aggressive indeed.....especially with a TRAILER ON!!!! His eyes were panicky as I quite quickly exited the space double lines be damned.

I really think too many drivers don't know how to deal with motorcycles when in fact just drive normally is what is the desired state of mind. Trouble is normal is scarrrrrry.

Drivers seem to act a little better at night... the road is less crowded and with my headlights I'm a bit harder to miss. I like to head out some evenings for a quick relaxing ride. Except some minivans, that is... why does that minivan want want to race me?

Never really had a problem with drivers when riding(minus the few occasions when they don't see me and try to occupy my road), loud exhaust + ohline's reservoir peaking out keeps em at bay. (+ I'm 6'3)

Today I was heading up Tomken road, ***** in a minivan starts moving into my lane!!! I start weaving to mark my territory, after we stop(red light) side by side I give her the 2 fingers in my eyes and point to the road gesture "***** look where you're going" she starts pointing at my lane like she wants to maneuver over into it, wtf you don't just start maneuvering into my lane without signal and into me. Anyways, that's my rant for today.

All cage drivers are being exceptionally polite and nice with me when I'm riding. They offer me snacks, water and some even present me with flowers and teddy bears :D

same. gotta say the teddy bears are my fav, and wish they had healthier snacks.

depends where.
HWY 400, Majority of drivers know what they're doing. they even check their rearview mirror and when they see me coming they move over to allow passing.

HWY 404/DVP, Diff story. Drivers doing 80-90kmh in passing lane. no one checks behind to see what's going on.

but overall, i find majority of drivers give bikers space and after accidental almost collisions on lane changes etc they apologize adn realize they almost killed someone.

one odd thing i've noticed. on my cruiser drivers want to pass me, even when there is no room or all vehicles are doing the normal 130 on HWY. whereas on the SS they give me room and no one tries passing...

also, Audi Drivers for some reason get all worked up and start weaving through traffic or pass and get into my lane when im on the SS. mostly 30-50 year old Audi drivers. i don't get it. lol

on that point, yes most "sport" cars think their cars are faster, more maneuverable than our bikes... but who cares,
let them think what they want to think,
and ill simply know what i know ;)

If you're not a speck in the distance by time they realize the mirror is gone you're doing it very wrong.

I couldn't agree more. When I'm in my car, I see idiot drivers but when I'm on my bike, it seems like they come out of the woodwork and are so hostile when they see a bike on the road. I went to the grocery store in my car, about 10 mins in total on the road and saw maybe 4 morons driving. I got home, jumped on my bike and within the first 20 minutes, I was cut off multiple times, pushed over in my own lane 3 times and had my *** ridden about a foot from my back tire a few times as well. Not to mention the idiot who drove IN MY LANE to pass me just because the lane opened up a little wider in that area. I was shocked and he didn't even bat an eye. Oh, and the jerks who decide to change into my lane while passing through an intersection, I guess they never learned that you aren't supposed to do that when they got their license. I'll yell and swear in my helmet but when it boils down to it, the car will win in the end so I just brush it off (eventually.) ;)

i think you are right. when you do say 120 in a car than you are overtaking almost all vehicles on highway but even at 125 on a bike it seems lot of car overtaking you. it seems like lot of car drivers cant stand that a bike can be faster then them.

bike speedo is overstated by about 7% - 10% depending on maker
