how do car drivers act around you?

Just what the header says. My bike seems to bring out the jerk in a lot of car drivers lol.

Just one example I was doing an adequate speed down lakeshore tonight and some jerkhole almost caused an accident by passing me in the oncoming lane over a solid line. Or often drivers hammer down in their sedans when they get along side. Not too sure what they're trying to accomplish but I'm not even tempted. Could they possibly think they can beat a bike?

I normally make an effort to pass everything from cars to ducks so I can't say but there are two notable events that I haven't forgotten:

#1. I was turning left via advance signal and someone was turning right in the oncoming lane. The ***** slowly tried to merge until my lane until she heard my fist on her window.

#2. A few weeks ago I was on the 401 in the fast lane in grid lock. Some old man and his wife went into the shoulder and cut me off. I passed them and pointed to my camera...the wife opened the window and said "so what?". A billion violent thoughts went through my head before I decided to be the wiser man and just weave my way home.

The 2nd incident made me wonder if I should just go back to lane splitting -_-

never had any jerk drivers around me, and i ride every where.

had some drivers which are oblivious though...left turns in front of me...no blindspot checks on lane switches (no i wasnt weaving super speeds)...slams brakes for a turn that they might miss....etc...

though some drivers are not so happy when i pass them....they speed up when i signal to switch lanes, so i just twist the throttle lol and switch lanes anyways and be on my merry way.

most drivers i've encountered are pretty passive if you mind your own business

I find other drivers are usually pretty great, leaving me a lot of room as long as they see me. That's the key, for the most part; being seen. There have been two occasions since I started riding in 2008 when the drivers saw me then cut me off anyways, but that's no different than in a car.

I ride a sport-tourer, maybe that makes a difference?

I wonder if cars would be stupid enough to cut somebody off on a Harley with a Hell's Angel or Outlaws cut lol

Some bikers have hammer holsters on they're bikes for the occasion. If your not going to use your mirror they'al remove it for you lol

Sounds implausible. Probably for non-metropolitan areas. Seems like an invitation for someone to be alarmed and threatened and accidentally run over the hammer wielder. Very tragic.

Physical attacks usually invite retaliation, no matter what it is. If nobody got hurt, try to stay cool if you can.

All cage drivers are being exceptionally polite and nice with me when I'm riding. They offer me snacks, water and some even present me with flowers and teddy bears :D

People seem to be way more courteous when I'm wearing my hi-vis vest. Maybe they think I'm a cop lol.

I find that drivers around me are pretty accommodating with space for the most part. There's always some idiot who gets too close but then they realize how close they are and back off pretty fast. Very rarely do I have anyone cut me off, try to merge into me, or turn left in front of me unexpectedly...knock on wood.

Got to hate those D-bags who try to get somewhere faster then everyone else and seem to not care what lane they are in.......

city vs outskirts -- I don't ride much in the city but I've actually been pretty impressed by driver's up north (Kawarthas, Huntsville, Bobcaygeon, etc), both solo and when riding in a group. Yes, you hit the odd d-bag anywhere, but in a lot of cases I've seen cars move out of the way/pull over to let me or the group pass if there is the opportunity to pass safely.

they get all hot and sweaty

That. And I'm treated pretty well in general, I've had plenty of people start a left turn and stop because they saw me coming.

Bright colours, fat bike and quiet pipes save lives.

Suburbia is where I have more issues with cars doing stupid things. In the city (apart from cabs) or out in the rural areas its not too bad. I have notice a difference with the hi-viz jacket this year with cars leaving me more space. Actually kinda surprised by the difference it has made over my normal black & grey gear.

Generally like total morons but I don't think that has anything to do with me being on my bike. It has more to do with our pathetic licensing standards and joke of a training system for drivers.

Oh its plausible. You cut them off and in retaliation they would take out your side mirror or a window with it on the next drive by. My uncle told me this during one of his bike story sessions..they called them traffic cops. It may not be as common of a practice now but back in the day..

A month or two ago I was on a 8~ ish bike group ride. My gf almost got taken out by a cage swerving over the median during the 404 to 401/dvp switch. One of my buddies in the back went next to the shiny new car and shoved his boot so hard into the door it left a dent. A chase ensued after.

Nobody was hurt and the car lost the boot buddy. We also had a great laugh after.
