On my way over to see Tyler at Two Wheel to pick this up:

I have been so tempted to squid it but I have been good. Wore all my gear on the commute to and from work yesterday. Made me sweat like a pig.

Since the Icon has CE armour in the elbow and shoulders it might be tempting to not wear the Styker elbow guards on the really got days. I doubt that the armour in my textile jacket is CE rated hence the adding armour to beef it up.

Depending on how things go I might add the CE level 2 back protector into the jacket to replace the basic foam that it comes with:

This is still a step down (in my opinion) from wearing the seperate elbow guards and vest; but it is a decent compromise between comfort and protection. Much better than squiding it.

Next up will be some textile/vented pants to let more air flow than my jeans allow. Olympia AirGlide 3 pants?

I'm in full textile. Saw a friend crash in jeans recently and they lasted a second. I'd rather sweat than bleed!

Yeah, I seem to recall it being hot last year too, weird.

At least he is wearing jeans. My co-worker has been doing the partial squid since he got his Ninja 300. Wears a decent jacket, gloves, helmet, and boots. But no jeans.. Just shorts...

Got him a good deal through Tyler on some Draggin Jeans but his wife didn't like how they looked... I told him to at least wear some jeans. In a very low speed off he might be able to walk away with some bruises. With shorts we are talking road rash no matter what.

Since the Velocity jeans have not come in yet I am wearing the armoured shorts and knee guards to beef up the protection in my plain vanilla jeans.

Next up is textile pants. Vented for the hot stuff, water proof lining for riding in the rain. A good value for dollar seems to be Olympia Air Glide 3. Might get something leather or leather plus textile for spring and fall weather.

Which city will you be protecting ?

Gotham and Metropolis are taken.

I just took the car...I wanted to ride but when I saw the temp I didn't feel like dealing with stop and go in this in about 45 minutes. Zoodles I have the Icon Contra jacket and that back protector in it. Feels great and can barely tell it's there. Great for this type of weather.

When its humid, mesh and the like really dont make much of a difference. Its like riding into a hair dryer, the air does not feel cool at all. I pretty much always wear a full jacket. It breathes very well, so as long as I am moving the air is flowing through it all, but when stopped... well thats no fun at all.

I didn't ride today but rode over the weekend, yesterday was almost as hot. If I did ride today I would have been in my Icon Overlord Prime Leather, Full Gauntlets, Draggin Jeans, Knee/Shin guards and TCX boots. Yes it is hot but I prefer my skin on my body and not on the pavement. Plus as they say.... most accidents happen within a few KMs of home, so a 10 minute commute doesn't save you from the accident gremlins.

A month ago I used to ride squid in this type of weather. Sometimes it takes seeing it in real life to believe it. I thought guys on here were exaggerating on how fast regular jeans shred. My buddy low slid at 40km/h and slid for maybe 3 seconds. The knee area of the jeans instantly ripped open along with his skin.

I'm not gonna tell other people to wear gear though; my gf still squids even though she bought gear that costs more than mine lol

I have one of those jackets. Wore it yesterday and it was great in the hot weather. That said I rode squid to work last night.... the whole 1000 meter commute :lmao:

I agree with 油井緋色 though. I'm not going to bother telling anyone to wear anything anymore. I loved being at wasaga yesterday seeing a pack of 250's and 300's, riders all in full leathers and passengers all in short shorts and halter tops. Some people I guess need to learn the hard way :dontknow:

I have a perforated leather and wore it today and yes it works when you are moving but sitting in traffic forget it!! I may pull my first squid( T SHIRT ) tomorrow because i know i will be sitting in traffic again!

I partially squided it to Two Wheel to get the jacket. I had my jeans on with the armoured shorts and knee guards but just wore a sweat wicking t-shirt. I had to admit that it felt great to have air flow. Felt very unprotected though.

I ended up getting a different model of jacket though. The Icon Overlord SB1. Wore it home and yikes... It felt just like I did riding with the tshirt only! Could not believe it. Once the insulated liner was out the thing just flows a crap load of air. Perhaps a little over the top for a standard bike but it does coordinate pretty nicely with my helmet. This jacket plus having my helmet open one notch with the visor is an awesome combo up to about 90 km/hr. Beyond that speed I feel that I need to latch the visor fully.

I rode to Eramosa, Guelph Lake, through town, on the way to Hamilton on Centre road and then back. Had to feed the dog so I had to get back. Usually I do not want to ride that much in this much heat. Now I think I will head back out for a couple of hours. What a difference the right gear makes.

Some pics of the jacket:

Slider at elbow and shoulder.

The back has a TPU slider that is vented as well:

Icon gear may not be the best but they do have some cool designs and features. This internal pocket hides something which apparently comes in all Icon Jackets:

St. Christopher medal:

Drawback to the jacket is a very basic foam pad in the back that is Non-CE rated. The elbows and shoulders have CE rated armour though which is coupled with the sliders which I pointed out earlier:

I am going to experiment wearing the jacket with the stryker vest plus foam insert and the stryker vest with the foam insert removed. In the end though I can see the wisdom with buying this CE level 2 backrest and putting it into the jacket:

I saw at least 20 bikes out there in my brief travels today. Most were squiding it. The amazing thing is that a well vented jacket can keep you as comfortable as just being in a tshirt but with much more protection.

I am not as protected as I am in my full textile jacket plus stryker armour. Mind you the comfort level is at least 4-5 times better. I can live with the compromise. Next up is a vented textile pant. :)

I rode and survived it. Wore gear, but I was tempted not too. I kept checking the pavement through the day by my kickstand. By the time I left - I could see it sinking. I think tomorrow I place a crushed pop can under it.

I just bought a kickstand plate at royal. It's small, has a lip to make sure your kickstand doesn't slip off it and does the job better than a pop can, wood etc. It also fits in the back of my bike or jacket pocket with no problem.

Hay thanx! I've never seen that before. Think I'll pick one up this weekend.

Cheers
