Honda CRF250L vs Yamaha WR250R?

wr no doubt... it can be debogged and turned into a street legal two stroke

check out all the mods on thumpertalk... on top of that you would have every problem you could come across listed on that site...

Turning a 4 stroke into a two stroke is quite a modification!

In this case not really :P because the wr is sold with all the epa emission crap... just like my 426 a couple of free easy to do mods (and thats coming from someone with 0 mechanical experience)... i turned my bike from a bogged ttr to me holding on for my dear life

haha :P http://www.thumperfaq.com/free_mods.htm << check them out you can do the exhaust, throttle stop, grey wire and the airbox and re tune the carb and be on a brand new bike

although there things you would want to do afterrr you have the emisson/safty test done for the sticker

"...you can do the exhaust, throttle stop, grey wire and the airbox and re tune the carb and be on a brand new bike..."

Many years ago I asked a fast "old" guy what mods I should make to get my speed up in the woods.

Without looking up from what he was doing he said, "Loose 10 pounds."

I love screwing around with my bikes as much as anybody but if I was going to do anything I'd change the gearing and get the suspension set up for my weight and riding ability. They give the best bang for the buck in my opinion.

You might want to look up what two stroke/four stroke is

nothing yet, But leaning towards the WRR..... I'm 5'8 would the WRR be to big for me?

I am about 2" taller than you, when I demo rode one it felt pretty nice. Only thing I did not like was how far I had to lean it over at stops.

^ I'm 5'6, I know what you mean... Every stop I have to lean on one side with only the balls of my feet, can't flat foot it. But then again its not lowered.

So lowering is an option as well.

Shave stock seat or aftermarket seat e.g. seat concepts or spiral step seat, lowering link.

Check this out as well, some other lowering ideas

Also a link to comparison between the two;

& from the wr250rforum that I'm on, some convo regarding the two

Thanks for the info unoR...These are the two bikes i am considering.Trying to get my head around the 250cc,will it have enough of a fun factor in the dirt? My concern is lack of power...I do like the price of the Honda...but have heard and read good thing about the WR.I would be using the bike most of the time in the dirt.
It has been a while..just got the dirt bug again.

Depends on what you mean by dirt. If fire roads and quad trails is what you like then it'll be great. It's not the engines power that'll be it's limiting factor in the dirt. The weight of the bike becomes a problem when stuff gets tight and technical.

The weight is the reason I started looking at the 250 class.Would be nice to keep it around the 300lb mark or lower...most riding would be trails/fire roads with trips to the Ganny.
I did look at a 2011 (new)250 Husky (240lbs) would be nice..but have heared they are costly...maintenance/dealer network etc...Nice bike though.

Don't bother lowering the bike, it affects handling and decreases ground clearance.

You'll get used to the height of it. I'm 5'7" and ride a YZ250F with stiff suspension and no issues. I haven't had a "stupid" tip over in a long time. You'll just get used to it, and it's not like these are heavy bikes.

I used to ride a 1987 CR125 when I was even shorter than I am now, and I'm pretty sure the seat on that sucker was taller than what I'm on now, and even then I didn't have many issues.

hey Triumph Guy,
Doesn't the dealership in Peterborough still carry Husky? Not the Cycle Salvage place with the URals but the place north of it off Hwy. 28.

Yes they do...that's how I came across the 250te..very nice bike...I guess what's really holding me back is...do I want a 2011 te for the same price as a 2013 WR?
The question regarding dealer network for Husky..doesn't seem that strong...could be gone tomorrow. That's not an issue with Yamaha.
I'm thinking the WR is the bike.
