Home security systems

Those of you with ADT or other big name companies: do they install wireless systems and sensors? I don't see how they would wire up my whole house without spending a fortune and a week doing it...so what's the equipment like?

Im thinking remington, either way its only got an 18nch barrell, thats the limit in Canada for long rifles. Anything shorter and its considered a restricted weapon.

Whats the deal with the shells? 3 are right side up and 2 are upside down, cause after you use up those two slugs, I don;t think you will need the 00 anymore

Its a Mossberg 590A1. And the 18.5" barrel minimum applies to semi-automatic firearms, so pump-action shotguns are not affected by it. There are all kinds of non-restricted short barrel shotguns on the market in Canada, some with barrels as short as 8".

Husky is the best protection one can have. On site security guard is all you need!

What if thief throw a nice juicy steak?

My goal is to make my wife feel more secure while I'm on nite shift. We're not paranoid, but infrared cameras won't help deter a home invasion.A dog is out of the question.

Wouldn't that invite street thugs to break into your house looking for the gun?

You also choose to have a rent a cop show up or the police when the system goes off.
I chose the police, since rent a cops take up to an hour + to respond ..

Was going to say the same thing.... working in the security industry and working with people that have worked for alarm repsonce companies. You definately dont want security responding. Could take long for them to arrive and if there is a break in cops have to be called anyways and that's an other wait time to add on. Also, police can get there faster as they put the cherries on an can break the law to get to you where as a security gaurd can not.

Sorry. Sig Sauer. Good catch

Thinking of getting this as my first arm

Heard some pretty good reviews about it.

There is an argument for and against this. Wouldn't he be afraid that the residents of the house are all armed??

I had the oppertunity to shoot a Sig at the range in Stoufville. I shot the P226 .40 cal. I really enjoyed that pistol. Nice choice BTW. It sucks that Canadian laws are getting tougher and tougher on ranges and citizens to carry and shoot pistols.

The p229 (and 220, 226, etc) are fat guns... I can shoot it fine but it's uncomfortable. The grips are too big and clunky for my medium-large sized hands. If you're looking to buy one make sure you shoot it (and lots of other guns too) before plopping down the cash.

Heard they are very reliable and you can change the caliber

All the big brands are reliable, and you can change calibers in lots of other guns too.

I'd say 9/10 firearms owners don't shoot their guns nearly enough to need to worry about reliability anyways.

I've put thousands of rounds down the pipes of my Glocks and they've all been 100% reliable.

Do you mean the casing never gets in the way? Never obstruct the passages?

I assume you're asking if he's had FTF or FTE (failure to feed/eject).. I've had a number of Glocks and shot thousands of rounds through them without a single FTE/FTF.

There is a valid concern about limp-wristing Glocks though, they seem to be more prone to fail if held very loosely in the hand.

Very reliable I suppose

They all are.

In my experience, the most finicky guns were 1911s and semi-auto .22s. The rest all go bang when you pull the trigger.

Hahaha, we had a 1911 last 2 weekend when I was doing my course. It jammed, even with a dud bullet :D

I had a collection of 5 1911s at one point. They're awesome guns, my personal favourite. Lots of them are very picky when it comes to ammo though, so to an inexperienced user they come off as unreliable. But once you figure out its kinks and preferences they're solid guns. Tons of people swear by them for daily carry and duty.

I can see how a range/course gun might fail... who knows what they're feeding it. Also there are about a billion companies making their own versions of 1911s to various tolerances, and another billion companies making magazines for them. Some are good, lots are trash. Gotta find the right balance.
