Hit and run!!!

It's still considered a hit and run as far as police and insurance is concerned, just one involving property damage and not personal injury.

You mean a fail to remain or stop is what the police and insurance would consider it cause that is what it is called in the criminal code and hta... I know hit and run means the same thing but it's so dramatic. For some reason when I hear hit and run I automatically think of a person involved not just property.

Well, a person would have been involved. That person would be the one who just drove away. :)

You saw my sheepy???? Sheepy made it no problem...over 6000km and still going:)

If you want, sure, go ahead. I won't fight you off. :D

Did your stuffed animal on your seat survive the ride home in the rain on Sunday?

Should have bribed the cop to run the plate # and tell you her home address so that you can drive by and terrorize the beeotch ... ;)

Unfortunately he WILL have to pay the deductible, if it goes through uninsured motorist coverage. Been there.

Sure if the third party can't be identified, but OP has the plate#. ISB plate search will give the name, address and drivers license# of the registered owner. The drivers license allows you to pull and autoplus report which gives you the third party's insurance company and policy#. A quick call to the third party insurance company with police and witness info all matching the third party's vehicle should clean up that deductible.

... at which point uinsured motorist coverage would no longer apply. As I said if it goes under uninsured (which also covers you for unidentified, hit and run, etc.) motorist coverage, he will pay the deductible.

Dang - sorry to hear this. A reason I must remember to turn my alarm on even when I am close by. Hopefully it would get more attention should someone hit it.

Skimmed through most of the posts...I JUST went through the same thing...i totally feel for you. So a few things regarding insurance with a hit and run case:

-Insurance and Law are two separate entities, whether or not the police "catch" her does not affect the way your claim is handled
-The insurance company can "identify" the driver themselves, they do not necessarily have to use the Police dept. investigators for this.

ALL of the below are considered "no fault" 0% fault of yours. Your rates will not be affected as your vehicle was hit in a parking lot, without you being on it. Basically, you as a rider do not become "riskier" due to misfortune

-If the driver of the vehicle is "identified" and does "not have valid insurance", It goes under a Collision coverage labeled "uninsured vehicle". You DO pay a ded., it should not be as high as your regular deductible. ie. reg. ded. is $1000, uninsured vehicle coverage is $300
-If the driver of the vehicle is "identified" and has "valid insurance". It goes on as a Comprehensive claim, you DO NOT pay a deductible
-If the driver of the vehicle is "unidentified", it goes on as a Collision claim. You pay a deductible. I believe it may be your $1000 (you'd have to check with your claims adjuster on this one)

-Insurance considers this a "hit and run"
-The police will be in contact with the driver, either by snail mail or phone call. Depends on the district. It's usually within 24 hours.
-The driver can be charged with the following:
1) Careless Driving (6 points)
2) Fail to remain (6 points)
3) Fail to furnish required information (3 points)
4) Fail to report accident (3 points)

Having said that, the highest accumulated amount of points you can get is six at a time, unless each charge is tried separately with separate convictions.

-If you want to ensure the lady gets charged, which even if she committed the offense the sad truth is they don't always get what they deserve, follow up with your investigating officer on your case. You should've been assigned a number of some sort to call

Hope that helps. This is just from my experience having just gone through it and working for an insurance company. *shrug*

uninsured motorist will cover you for accidents where the third party is at fault, identified, and uninsured. If the claim goes as a hit and run becuase the third party is never identified then it will go as a not at fault collision. The only difference really is that UIM carries a $300 deductible and collision typically carries $500. They're both not at fault and neither increase premiums

Hopefully justice is somewhat served when all is said and done. Some people are just rotten.

Sorry about your bike, keep us posted on the outcome.

ahh crap, sorry to hear.
on a sidenote, how do you like the bike so far?

a total of 5 fairings need replacing along with clutch lever and foot peg

If you need that many fairing pieces its very likely your well over $2000 in damage not including labor...Youd be surprised how much those fairings cost, especially since you have the FIAT replica!

We did an 08 CBR 600RR graffiti edition insurance claim earlier this year, the customers bike was backed into in a parking lot and tipped over just like yours. Damage was not even noticeable from 5ft away, and the claim was just over $5000 for insurance parts and labor...I was actually very surprised that they didnt write it off at that price, her insurance waived her deductible also...
