Hey Mechanics and Ford guys, need answers

So Ford has a new special warranty, $3,100.00 and you pay no oil changes, bulbs, wiper blades, filters/ air or cabin or brake parts, rotors pads and belts hoses ect. or labour for 200,000km or seven yrs.

They tell me this is because people buy a truck and they never see them again for service.

It amounts to an approx 6K savings over the life of the warranty and vehicle by their math.

Any opinions on this???

your first mistake is buying a ford lol

Those warantee's are great for the people who glance at the work order and whip out the mastercard....Ignorance is bliss

Not always. My truck was about 8 months old and during an oil change they attempted to get me to change my air filter and showed me this "filthy" air filter... One I would have to pay for. That filter is still in the truck, it still looked pretty much brand new.
If something isn't covered under warranty, I'll be going through my own means, getting parts at cost and fixing it myself.

Thanks for coming out, dont let the door hit you in the sack on the way out.

I'm going to see three brakes job in 200,oook which is 4 yrs for me, pads rotors and service on an F150 is a grand once its taxed. And no I'm not doing it myself, because i dont want to.
20 oil changes at 69.00, and air filters and cabin air thrown in. theres $1500. and yes ford will do it when i would like it.
gas shocks, belts, wiper blades, and the dealership gets paid at the warranty labour rate so it's ok for the tech to look for stuff to fix.
I can take it to any Ford dealer.

I actually called my "independant" garage guy, that I've known for 35yrs and his advice was if you take full advantage of the service they offer, the deal will pay for itself quite easily, be perpared to say no thanks to things that are discovered that arent covered.

you misunderstood. For people who have no clue about vehicles or simply dont care, taking it in and having **** done is great FOR the stealership.

- "Free oil change, but hey, we saved your life by replacing these suspension components that were about to fail for an additional $1K"

- "oh wow, thanks!!" *swipes credit card.

- "there's a sucker born every minute...."

There are definitely a lot of people like that. I haven't had a mechanic get anything like that out of me... But I've caught them and called them out on it.

Cant argue against this, as vehicles just keep getting more complicated and people keep getting distanced from practical skills this will be more and more common.
If you showed my wife a two day old dipstick in a deisel, that will be black its how they all are, and told her it has to be changed for safety she'd be inclined to give you the go ahead. She educated and could save you life if you had a medical emergency, but knows little about cars. The upsell nevers ends these days.

Toyota had the worlds largest vehicle recall.

**** happen. Specially when the big American car company are going down hill, you have to help them. The news will almost never talk of a recall from GM, Ford or Chrysler, but if it's Toyota, they will be on it forever.

My last diesel received 130k in the first year. Never replaced a thing except oil. I ran retella T from walmart buy it in 5 gallon buckets, after a filter it was 25 bucks per oil change. I ran many trips of 7000km not stop so I changed my oil every 15k Once I stretched it to 25k. I sent my a sample of my oil out and it came back clean. Modern engines do not use or burn oil like older engines. SO for me this warranty would be a waste of money

Two trips, hauling bikes to the Gap & back make up that 19K too!!
$600 for front brakes is just, wrong.
Buy what you need here:
http://www.autopartsway.ca/PartList..._and_Brake_Shoes/Disc_Brake_Pad/pagenum1/tabS
What you need will be on your porch the next day. Then take it to a 'reasonable' mechanic, or diy.

Cheapest front brake set on that site is $295 plus tax. I wouldn't advise getting the cheapest aftermarket stuff, plus you still have to install it. The next price level up is $443 plus tax, pre-installed inside a cardboard box. For the average Joe, where's the savings in this rather than just plonking the car at the dealer and getting it back with new brakes for $600?

I would think 130k with no brake service , belts or air filters is pretty remarkable. Thats a great truck.
I'm not going to do my own oil changes, I dont need the mess in the garage.

hey crackcall, as Zeniceguy stated it should be worth it but they will try to get you later in the life of the car. If possible I would read in detail what exactly does it cover and what does it not cover. Ex, what oils, what brake parts etc

how did you manage to 130K in one year? where the hell did you drive too?

agreed about the oil... i changed the oil in my BMW 3 every 20K ... motor ran mint until i sold it at 340 000 Km.

Uh huh.......

http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/...akes-the-best-cars/index.htm?loginMethod=auto

"Subaru for the first time has earned the top score in our automaker report cards. Meanwhile, Honda, which had been the perennial winner for the past four years, slipped to fourth place among 13 major automakers, behind Mazda and Toyota. Honda models, however, are still among the most reliable on the road overall."

Went from Chrysler to Subaru in December due to high marks in reliability (Tribeca). Hopefully I won't have to do much in the next few years on it.

Fastar.......Re read the price list.
New Honda Oem brakes barely make it thru a good weekend.......the link I put up for others sells parts that actually last, or I wouldn't have linked it.
ymmv.

We're talking pads AND rotors, aren't we?

LMAO!!!! I know a guy who owns a shop as well. All you see is American POS and some German cars in there. All the Japanese cars that come in there are for routine maintenance. Stop giving the impression that American cars have improved. Heck, even Consumer Reports has ranked ALL the American brands poorly.

i own a transmission shop, if it wasn't for honda's and toyota and nissan tranny's breaking then i would be in the poor house.

beleive me, it's not the american made cars that are breaking down

There have have been millions of American brands that have been recalled but the mainstream media won't report it. But when there is a recall on an import, they are all over it.

Toyota had the worlds largest vehicle recall.
