So Ford has a new special warranty, $3,100.00 and you pay no oil changes, bulbs, wiper blades, filters/ air or cabin or brake parts, rotors pads and belts hoses ect. or labour for 200,000km or seven yrs.

They tell me this is because people buy a truck and they never see them again for service.

It amounts to an approx 6K savings over the life of the warranty and vehicle by their math.

Any opinions on this???

Im a ford Technician
Its easier for them to sell the truck if you never have to pay for maintenance.
it is well worth it
its called FMPP
but because you only go to the dealer now, they will find other things that arnt covered as it gets older and make money on other things you need.

there is also ESP and thats an extended warranty

Buying american? Always get the extended warranty.

I've had one from everybody and if you drive 50,000 a yr like me, stuff will give out. Had GM,Honda,VW,Chryco,Audi,Lexus and BMW all here in the last decade. They all have something to fix. Extended warranties are looking more attractive to me if they cover electronic issues. Thats becoming the plague.

Thanks Zeniceguy, thats the insight I was looking for.

i own a transmission shop, if it wasn't for honda's and toyota and nissan tranny's breaking then i would be in the poor house.

beleive me, it's not the american made cars that are breaking down

I bought the 5 year (forget how many km) warranty for my Dodge. The fact that I get 20 oil changes for free (that right there just about covers the cost for the warranty) was a big factor. Plus, it's already came in useful for a cruise control switch and a door lock solenoid that somehow messed up.

Uh huh.......

"Subaru for the first time has earned the top score in our automaker report cards. Meanwhile, Honda, which had been the perennial winner for the past four years, slipped to fourth place among 13 major automakers, behind Mazda and Toyota. Honda models, however, are still among the most reliable on the road overall."

  • Although Chrysler remains in last place, its overall score jumped eight points, making it the second most improved automaker. Chrysler’s average road-test score also increased by eight points, the most of any automaker, and its overall reliability improved to average. The turnaround can be credited mostly to Chrysler’s extensively freshened and redesigned vehicles.
  • Ford falls the farthest, dropping from fifth place in last year’s report cards to 10th. The automaker’s road-test score improved by two points over last year’s, but subpar reliability of some new vehicles, due largely to the troublesome MyFord Touch infotainment system and Power-Shift automatic transmission, hurt its report-card grade.
  • In our testing, we continue to see improvement in General Motors’ redesigned models, but reliability of some new vehicles is below average.

You'll note my apprehension on the electronics in Ford and Chrysler, and we have a GM sitting here with tire pressure monitor system thats been a problem since the day the warranty ran out.
I've heard about the MyFord systems...

I'm thinking the maintainence warranty being offered where I pay no oil changes, ect for 200,000 is worth having.

Is this dealer exclusive?....or would you be able to take it to any Ford dealership for oil changes etc. There are certain dealers in the GTA that I wouldn't trust

They will try and up sell you on everything you get done. Read the contracts too there's tons of stuff is not covered.

Also do you think they will use high quality oil/filter? Probably not...may as well go to the $9.99 oil change places...

They offered that service deal to me when i bought my 2011, but i declined it.

On all my new vehicles ive bought i always add the extended warranty to the vehicle. Its just peace of mind.
I currently bought the 180,000 km extended warranty for my truck just due to it being the new twin turbo engine.

Do the math.
I took my F150 ('10) for an oil change a week ago. $39.95. 5W20.
Do you think Ford is going to toss you an oil change when YOU want it done, or when the silly "oil life" light comes on?
Are the new units running 0W20? If so - that's good for 10,000kms.
So, in your case, 200,000 is four yrs of driving. That amounts to 20 oil changes. 20 x $40 is only $800. $3100 is a little steep, dontchathink?
During that 4 yr period, you might need 1 or 2 bulbs. That's no where near $3100. One cabin filter (maybe 2), and maybe 4 air filters.
I wouldn't give Ford an extra $3100 for that.
Also - if you're putting 50K kms / yr - it must be mostly highway. You don't use up brakes out there like you would in town.
If that $3100 would pay for a new transmission - I'd be all over it, otherwise............nah.

Better rethink your math.

An oil change on my truck isnt 39.95 as it requires more than 5 litres. ( thank god i get free oil changes for life of vehicle)

If he is doing 50k a year which im doing almost myself now on the highway. You can look at replacing your front brakes around 75 k .. give or take.
Get a price on front rotors OEM from Ford plus pads and labour .. not to mention tires on these trucks have to be replaced sooner do to them having the LRR technology.

Wow I wish they had this option when I bought my truck. I wonder if they charge more for diesels - an oil change on my F350 costs over $200 when done at the dealership!

Front rotors - $93.21 Pads - $107.76
Rear rotors - $58.41 Pads - $76.76
(you could be burning through brakes faster than most on here - unless you use the trailer brakes exclusively).

My truck also takes 5.7L of 5W20 (4.6V8 ). If you think I'm crazy enough to get it done at a Ford dealer (and I do get an employee discount) I would still be paying with my 1st born. Semi-syn 5W20 is semi-syn 5W20 - I don't care who makes it, or installs it in my truck - it's 5W20. That's why I let the 'quick change' places do it. I've had 11 oil changes done to my '10, and it only has 19,900kms on it. My '12 Accord uses 0W20 and I've had 2 changes done in 9,000kms. ($76 per) Even at that rate (I'm anal about oil changes) $3100 is a joke.

As for tires, I wasn't aware the $3100 included as many sets as you can burn through in 200,000kms. Combine that, with a new transmission as required, and I'd consider it money well spent ($3100), otherwise, I'd never choke up that kinda coin for a "warranty".
The warranty on my F150 runs out in May - right around the same DAY I'll be trading it in.

Ahhh i see why your not worried. You've only got 19k on a 2010 truck .. lol ...

Ive got 80k on my 2011 already, and i dont use trailer brakes and 85% of my driving is highway.

BTW its $600+ to have your front brakes done at Ford, rears are pretty much the same.

Two trips, hauling bikes to the Gap & back make up that 19K too!!
$600 for front brakes is just, wrong.
Buy what you need here:
http://www.autopartsway.ca/PartList..._and_Brake_Shoes/Disc_Brake_Pad/pagenum1/tabS
What you need will be on your porch the next day. Then take it to a 'reasonable' mechanic, or diy.

Wow, no coverage for suspension (except shocks) or drivetrain. So you get free oil changes, a set or two of brakes and maybe a belt. Just doesn't seem worth it. BTW I don't see coverage for tires.
