Help transporting a motorcycle

Wow, lots of negativity on here. Last weekend I drove to sault ste Marie to pickup a 2012 Victory kingpin for my dad, sight unseen. Turned out to be an awesome deal! $5000 worth of accessories, 3600 km, absolutely mint -$10 000. I'd drive there twice just to see the look on my dads face again! Lol I have driven all over Ontario in the past to buy bikes I wanted.
Ps Miker313 I like mine double double, and yes I work for tidbits. Lmao

you can do this yourself. rent a u-haul ($20). take some parts off the bike for it to fit and tie it down. i've done this. it's possible. why spend more money then you need to? p.s. don't forget your tools and a solid piece of wood. transport at your own risk though.

THIS. I highly recommend doing this. The person I sold my ninja 250r to last year came with a rented dodge caravan with the seats taken out. We took off the windscreen, folded down the mirrors and he ratchet strapped the bike down to where the latches for the back and middle seats went. I took another route when I picked up my SV650 from the Algonquin Highlands (4.5 hour drive one way). I borrowed a relative's hitched SUV, rented a U-Haul motorcycle trailer for $18 and did the round trip myself.

So I will be borrowing my friend pick up and strapping it to the back. The reason for north bay is because its a 2010 with 2000km and for 3000$, so best deal I found yet, and yes it is from a dealer.

Just curious, have you added the extra tax you have to pay because it's a dealer?

Dealer tax full amount - 390$
Private sale with cool person - 13$

I got quoted $150 from Kahuna powersports to steeles/McCowan...that's like 20 kms.

So yeah. $400 is cheap from North Bay to Mississauga. Perhaps it'll be best to take a friend who knows how to ride....

I'd do it for free if I had more riding experience and you'd be willing to drive my @ $$ there...but that's just me...

Install a hitch on your car - 260 all in aprox and rent a uhaul motorcycle trailer, you iwl be spending about the same 400 but you will have a hitch for next time you are in the same problem (upgrade bike, bring it for safety, take it to the mechaninc, etc)

Just an opinion

In regards to "Wasted" comments, if you are a good friend to others, you find that they are willing to help you out, if you are not, they tend to tell you to F'off

If you have insurance and plates. I'd ride it back... for $200.
Pm if you are interested, this could be fun.
What happens if you crash on the way back? are you willing to pay for his bike? is his insurance going to pay him for his bike?

This is not a shot at you, think it over, people are crazy these days and helping someone that you don't know, can become a nightmare for you.

I agree with this. Not saying anybody is crazy, but I think what ZX600 is saying is that the potential for a huge headache is always there.

Yeah, true...

I was just trying to help out the guy, but I see what your saying. I thought the insurance will cover for any damages, guess not. Regardless check out CAA member ship. 4x 200km tows per year, it would cost less than $400.

CAA is smarter than that.

With a week or something waiting period.

48hours to activate.
Not sure if they would allow 2 tows for the 400km trip.

I say no. My scamming friend tried that. That's right, it was a friend, not me.

Hey, yes i have taken that into consideration. Basically everything will be 3500, safety will be done and it will be plated, so i wont have to go do all that myself. However i will waste half a day driving up there. However i have been searching for 2 months now on kijji and other sites, and I have been getting offers for bikes with more kilomteres and things wrong with them from 3000-3500 and bikes in better condition for around 4000$, so for me i think the drive up there and 100$ for gas is worth it. Plus im tired of searching and just want to ride now :)

It's not a waste. Life on planet earth is not so important that everything has to be a race to the finish at maximum efficiancy. Enjoy the process.

Yeah you're right. Come to think about it its actually kind of exciting doing this on my own, and with friends it should be a fun drive.
