Hazard: People with soccer flags on their cars

So, are you saying you are descendant of the native people? You know at some point in history someone from your family came here from another country to give themselves a better life, as you said.

You know the "natives" aren't actually native to this land, right? They're "immigrants" just like "us".

Football is recognised the world over. Anywhere you go people will be talking about the world cup. Its huge in Europe.

Want to see hooligans ? Go to a pub in England, then proceed to call them names

Yeaaaahhhhh, noooo. Not quite. I understand what you're trying to say here, but the "just like "us"" part is waaaay off the mark.

Not everyone that leaves is to run away and for a better life, very ignorant thing to say and it shows lack of understanding anything outside your little world

The reason someone moved to this country is irrelevant. It's just that once people decide to become Canadian citizens , I think that they should refer to themselves, for example, as Canadians who were originally from "Italy" rather than an "Italian" who's away from home living in Canada. (The use of the "Italian" was used for example purposes only and was not meant to center our any particular ethnic group)

The reality of life in Jamaica was different from the façade erected for the tourists. It was an old-fashioned place, riddled with class divisions. The better jobs, such as teacher and bank manager, always seemed to go to the people with the lightest skin and the straightest hair.

Canada's charms — a booming economy, a well-funded education system and a lower crime rate — became a siren song to many Jamaicans. One of Lawrence Brown's friends described Canada as "the Ice Palace — a place where everything was clean and cold and perfect."

So they came here for a better life. Am I missing your point?

I'm a patriot, served my county, got many t-shirts, and I agree with your point of view.

I meant to say, he is no one to me - I don't feel the need to explain myself or give justifications to someone that means nothing to me.

You shouldn't feel the need; I, nor anyone else, asked for your opinion. You rang in on your own.

Like no one has ever moved here due to their job and then meet someone and were obligated to stay here due to new born kids or impossibility for the wife to move etc.

So moving here for a job would be to maintain or better your career, not worsen it, as was my point. Anything that occurred after moving here is a decision made on circumstance.

Anyways, I am out of this conversation. You guys continue with your superior complex.

I think you've got that backwards.

..and by the way, if Canada and my country of origin were playing in the world cup, I would have a Canadian flag

Finally, something we agree on.

Perhaps you missed this.

"The accused were from what amounted to another world- Lawrence Heights, a rent-subsidized housing project known as the jungle.

Some ran, some didn't, but show me ANYONE that came to Canada to make a worse life for themselves. That's the point being made.

No, I didn't miss that, but they came to Canada with the intention of a better life, as was described in the quote in my post. Where they ended up has nothing to do with their intention when they came.

They came here hoping for a better life, but realistically made a life worse for themselves.
Not every immigration story has a happy ending.

You know this "other world" mentioned in this poorly written expose, known as Lawrence Heights, is in Toronto?

I grew up in 'The Jungle'. Never bought, sold, or did drugs. Never been shot or stabbed, and likewise never shot or stabbed anyone. I can say the same for my many friends and neighbours who, this many years later, still get together to reminisce about the good old days.
If anyone had a bad time residing there, they brought it upon themselves. Just like anyone from anywhere else. (When we were kids we all thought Regent Park would be the scariest place have to live.)

I'm Canadian and nothing but, so I can be a bit of a Nationalist, not unlike many of the people who live here yet still pay allegiance to their places of origin. But like most of us Canadians, I proudly wear my flag on the inside.

And in case there's any doubters, here's my proof: If I offended anyone, I'm sorry.

Canada allows dual citizenship. It doesn't mean you can't represent another country

People who drive around with flags on their cars supporting whatever swamp their *** came out of are obviously distracted with all this soccer foolishness, and should have their licenses taken away until whatever turf diving team wins the championship.

I wonder if you've been to any of these "swamps".
Country was occupied, and we had to leave. Yes we ran.
people of my country are kind, intelligent, funny, beautiful, food delicious and nature amazing.
I ran from canada at one point too. Don't really like it here. But made choice to be with my parents who can't run again, after me, somewhere else, so I ran back here.

Because of ignorance like yours, my heart cannot warm up to canada.

Mike is ok, he was joking, he is probably the least racist guy in here, which is more than I can say about others.
