Planned obsolescence.
A friends brother slid into a snowy ditch with his SUV. No body damage but the air bags went off and they're worth more than the car. He can drive it but it's unsaleable due to the safety. Air bags and a $3K windshield would do the same thing to a lot of cars. Insurance doesn't usually cover glass anymore.

And people wonder why I like oldschool stuff.
Hell, my current motorcycle is the first fuel injected bike I've ever owned, and I got dragged into that kicking and screaming, but there's pretty much no full dresser touring cruisers out there anymore that aren't FI.
But really the most whizbang thing on it is the stereo, and it's hard for that to blow up, and if it did I think I'd be able to replace it for under a hundie.
All the bells and whistles are cool and such until something like that happens.
