Harley-Davidson announced Impact-resistant Tough turban prototype for Sikh riders

The reality is, a turban is probably as effective as a "DOT" half helmet people ride on cruisers. Somewhere close to 0%

Claiming they're 0% effective is disingenious.

They protect your brain against impact. They might not, in some (but not all) accidents protect a good part of the rest of your face from impact, but they protect your brain, and arguably, that's the most important part.

I know someone who wrecked with a half shell and came out the other side just fine. And yeah, he hit his head.

I think you focused too much on the half helmet statement and not the "DOT" part of that statement.

A safety standard that doesn't at least require third party testing, and the most lax standard at that for motorcycle helmets. And possibly in the future if they ever get tested, or they fail, they may get recalled?

The fact this standard exists and is enforced though our helmet laws refering to CSA who refers to the DOT standard. Is well insane.

Well, if you're referring to the "novelty helmets" or whatever other "trendy" nonsense there is out there (IE the "german" helmets and such), yeah, I agree....they're of questionable worth in an actual accident.

I will admit that I wear a half helmet 99% of the time (the wind in my face is a big part of the appeal of riding to me, so it's a risk I accept) but I buy reputable brands and quality models that actually offer as much protection as is realistic from a half helmet.

I can’t ride with a visor up above 40km/h because of sand/bugs getting in my eyes/face, so I genuinely don’t know how you do that ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Not judging, just wondering.
dont forget random pieces of rocks and pebbles

can still get the wind in your face with a 3/4!

Meh. Part of riding. Airflow over the fairings / windshield tent to carry that away anyway

Rocks and pebbles? >100,000km of riding in the last ~5 years alone and I got tapped by a pebble in the face once that I remember. Didn’t even break the skin.

Agreed. I just don’t like the style.

Yeah yeah. I know. Safer. Again. It’s a risk I accept. Riding in general is all about accepting risks.

What must have been a meteor hit my X5 windshield last month, was really low on the glass too. Never had a crack from debris in 14 years of driving until now.

Helmet laws were not written to protect the people wearing helmets.

Ugh don’t remind me. I had a pebble touch my windshield and KABOOM. Crack is getting bigger and I need to replace it.

Jeep is offering Gorilla Glass as an option on Wranglers/Gladiators. Chips are bad on the near vertical windshields on them.

Must be a Jeep thing...lol
My cousin has had his Wrangler since 2014 - every time I see it there is some crack on the front glass...

Wonder if the new Gorilla glass will be as cheap as Exo Shield..

One rule for all. You cant wear a helmet, you cant ride, simple as that. Riding a motorcycle isnt a right.
Freedom from discrimination against religion shouldnt override the highway traffic act.
Many people here want special priviledges in Canada. The ability to be completely covered in a government photo etc.
I used to work at a place were some people had to remove all jewelry but others could wear it on religious grounds.

Religion is a choice and there should be ZERO special priviledges for ANY religion.

Imagine if Canadians went to live in the middle east and demanded governments change the law to better suit Canadian values and traditions.

The government doesn't force a religion on a person. That is usually done by parents or a peer group. It's up to the individual to choose what they want in life. If you want a particular religious lifestyle you have to accept its restrictions.

If one wants to be one of the crowd in a strict fundamentalist church forget about Friday night get togethers at the local strip club for a few beers.

If you're a Mormon you can't take a job as a coffee taster but you might be able to have several wives.

The option to do as one chooses doesn't work in Canada because we are a socialist country. If a helmet was a choice and the rider only partially whacked his brain, who spoon feeds him and changes his diaper for the next half century?

If someone wants to ride lidless what sort of medical insurance premiums would they have to pay to guarantee the insurance companies would have the available funds to cover the millions of dollars of 24/7 care?

In non socialistic countries the crash zombie either starves or his family does shift work forever to feed him and keep his butt wiped. In Canada we don't have the option of walking away. In Canada we also don't have the large families seen in third world countries so the duties fall on a small number of people, not spread over eight or ten.

In an agricultural society a walking zombie can function by feeding the chickens and be of some use. In a city they are usually 100% burden.

I'm not sure about Canadian law and who is responsible to provide the necessities of life. Does that mean I, nobbie48, have to shell out to provide for someone who didn't provide for their own future care?

There are activities more dangerous than riding. I don't know how to regulate them with regards to life safety.

I checked, would run me $3k installed at a stealer ship. I need OEM glass due to sensors and the HUD.

😩

$2400 at Honda. Called a few places and it runs from cheapest to most expensive $900-1400 and all are OEM.
