Prices will come down when each manufacturer sees that its products aren't selling like they used to and begin to panic.

Look at Tesla for a great example from the last 6 months.

But if they keep selling, there's absolutely no incentive.

I skipped the video, can I just assume "bold new graphics"?

When you're so invested in a brand, even if you don't like how they change with the times or whatever, you'll still buy the product at the end of the day.
How did that work for Bud Light?

edit: watched the video -the graphics are not that bold. Was amazed (not really) that except for the blonde woman there was not much hair that wasn't silver.

A lot of people are waaaaay more fanatical about Harley than they are about a beer brand.

I think Harley is kind of the Donald Trump of motorcycles - they could literally do anything, and no matter how offensive, batshit crazy, or illegal it is, the faithful will just keep on keeping on. Heck, I think if they stopped selling Vtwins tomorrow and switched to inline 4 cylinders like Goldwings people would loose their mind for a year or so and then just quietly find some way to be Ok with it afterwards and buy them anyways.

If you kept the rpma down and didn't care about balance, you can probably make a four cylinder with a really distinctive sound. I don't think you can get potato-potato but you can get something weird. For instance, have ceank with two cylinders flat and two crossplane. If I have it right in my head, that could give alternating 90 and 270 degree firings. Vibrate like hell but they've always been about look/sound over function.

aren’t gold wings inline 6s? 🤔

Hey you just made this thread political!!!!

I do disagree with the assessment a bit, at least product wise. Historically whenever Harley has strayed from the heritage they have tend to not to be overly successful in the NA market. Buell, V-RODs.... etc.

Raodglides are still ugly.

Not to crazy about what they have done to the batwing, such an iconic shape/appearance. Partly what I see is a production efficiently decision instead of aesthetic one. They removed the driving lights and turn signals, and I guess integrated into the extra light strips in the fairing itself.

Some of the faithful have spoken out about looks, new designs. The new Roadglide is an improvement, if you can call it that, over previous since everyone was calling it a scuba looking goggle (not in a nice way). Lots of course comparing it to Indian designs.
Also pricing is getting way up there.

Will have to see what they look like in person though.
I'd definitely go Indian if I get another bagger but I was the same as you hating the Roadglide looks until I rode one and now fixed-fairing would be what I would go with. Challenger or Pursuit preferably in white for me please.

Indeed. Brain behind fingers lol

If there's still the old comforting options to go back to, absolutely many will reject anything new.

I meant if they simply discontinued all of that cold turkey.

Look at the new Harley CVO's for example. Many of the old school club screamed loudly that the fully electronic dashboard with no physical gauges anymore was heresy. But unsurprisingly, now being the only option with no "comforting glowing old school gauges" as an option whatsoever to fall back upon if their heart desires a 2023/2024 CVO, they're still buying them when push comes to shove.

Don't forget the trikes !

You spelled "mobility scooters" wrong.

That's a 2009-on Yamaha R1. And they do sound awesome. But, it's not exactly in the same market segment ...

(The engine contains a balance shaft to address the inherent first-order shaking moment, and mechanically, they are very smooth running)

The Ducati V4 is another engine with a novel firing order which sounds unique. 90-degree V4 with the crankpins offset 70 degrees. It leads to an irregular firing pattern in which all cylinders fire in 380 degrees and then there's a 340-degree open space. First-order balance is good and no balance shaft is needed.

Aren't they just a normal crossplane crank? Far different spund than a flat plane for sure.

2 minute mark for me.
By that point I had noted the following tropes:
  • Grey beards - check
  • Botox blonde - check
  • Dusty roadhouse bar - check
  • Steel guitar music - check
  • Meaningless platitudes about freedom - check
Mixing on the exhaust sounds was nice though.

I thought 9% was pretty good for vehicle financing. HELOC's are running about 7.2% right now and the bank has essentially zero risk.

If a line of credit can be had for 7.2%, why would anyone choose in house dealer financing at 9?

- A LOC isn't 7% anymore unless it's secured, which ain't possible for those who have their LOC's at a bank and their mortgage at a company that doesn't play nice with banks. <raises hand>

- I have one and decided to save it for another home project come spring as getting a large sum of money via it is super easy. Once that project is paid for I'll likely transfer the remaining balance of the MC loan onto it as it does have the benefit of being variable rate and can only go down in the next few years.

FYI pricing of new models

HD Ultra Limited (full bags) $38,929 (i'm sure this was around $25K before the pandemic 🤷‍♂️ )
HD Street Glide $31,999
For comparison Goldwing Tour $34,363

I'm sure insurance would be through the roof as well.
