Harley Cop Rant

I was heading up the QEW the other day and noticed a cop on a Harley at around Hamilton. Of course people see this and slow down from 120 to 105km/h.

I was tailing him at around 105 in the left lane when this left lane hogger was
1. oblivious there were two motorcycles behind her
2. oblivious the next lane was open
3. oblivious that one of us was a cop

After a good 10 minutes I had enough and decided to switch 4 lanes to the far right lane and pass at 120 just before the Burlington Bridge Toronto Bound. The cop was tailgating the car the whole time I was behind him and it looked like he was clearly trying to get her attention and pass.

I don't understand why he didn't throw the lights on either to move her *** over or pull her over. Is there such thing as a ticket for being unaware of your surroundings cause f!!!, I was starting to road rage and had urges to cut the b#@$ off right in front of the cop.

Left lane bandits should see some jail time. **** I hate that.

Cops included. There's no excuse to sit in the hammer lane doing 100. :angry4:

Yeah but our speed limit is 100.....

Don't get me wrong though, I don't care how fast someone is going on the 407, they're all slower than me so they should move!

...except for that one time somebody passed me in my own lane at 230+ =(

Was he wearing a shorty helmet and a shirt?

Never understand why they don't lead by example.

Also never understand why they buy Harleys, 100 is likely as fast as it will go without something rattling off.

I had one pull me over for a "safety inspection". He was wearing a short sleeve shirt at a shorty helmet, cloth pants, and we are supposed to take them seriously?

The problem is that people consider it a fast lane, it's not the fast lane it is the PASSING lane. Pass someone and then move out of the left lane so that if someone wants to pass you they can. (obviously this doesn't matter in rush hour traffic)

1000X This. I bet these oblivious idiots cause more frustration and dangerous lane change behaviour than most lone HTA 172 "racers" picked up on the 407.

I was told by younger OPP biker cop that they get the Harleys because of the OPP parade and "precision" riding groups. The old guys like those bikes because it's comfy for them. They get the better bikes first then pass their old bikes to the OPP officers on the streets. This is what I was told because I asked why don't they get bikes like the Euro Cops have.

Nah he had a 3/4 helmet and his uniform on.

Haha, I lol'd

They kinda have to balance their requirements. Sure, they're riding the bike for one minute, but the next they might have to hop off and start chasing someone. A full face helmet, leather suit, and race gauntlets aren't exactly optimized for foot pursuits or particularly compatible with police equipment.

And then there's another reason... MONEY. I'm sure most forces would love to get some shiny new BMWs, but the way police budgets keep getting the axe, it's not exactly top priority.

LOL to all of this, I laughed even harder..

motorcycle cops dismounting and engaging in FOOT CHASES? Lack of money? Are you serious? Sounds like Blair has you eating out of his palm.... We have way too many police officers making way too much money.

I heard that the Harley touring bikes have a much lower center of gravity the a police BMW. As such, they are "safer" for low speed maneuvers.

I'm also mystified how the moto cops operate as they do under the scrutinizing eye of occupational health and safety.

People in Ontario just don't get this concept. .. And never will.

FWIW, whenever I see pics of European motorbike cops, they're always ATGATT.

Partially right .They get great prices in the bikes .The bikes are used mostly as secondary vehicles for special events.

Actually saw one of the new bikes the other day.

The OPP have leased their bikes for a number of years now. They have tested other bikes over the years, but always seem to decide that the Harleys best suit their needs.I have heard that they are going to test some BMW's and some Victories soon though. As far as the Harleys being too slow, they do have some pretty fast radio's.Do you really want to do a 3 year license suspension for failing to stop for a cop?
