HACKED By SMAIL MAX

I dont understand all this about the password being hacked.....how would this hacker know what other sites you use that same password for if this is what you guys are all worried about??

They check common ones like gmail, facebook, paypal..

I use a random password generator for everything. I don't even know my password for this site. I generated a new one though after this security breach.

Oh I see what your saying. Ya that would be pretty stupid to use the same e-mail and password on everything. NO wonder why I couldn't understand, lol!

Is it safe to come out yet?

So you use different email for everything? How many email addresses do you have?

Data leaks like what is happening here are not acceptable.
This forum is hacked almost on regular basis.
It happens to anyone but after once it needs to be locked down.

Fact that same guy is getting in as he likes tells me that this forum is not being secured.
They have no idea how is this guy coming in and therefore no idea how to stop him.
Attitude "oh we got backups so we are cool" is completely wrong.
I worked in web hosting for long time and from my experience huge majority of website owners
are completely clueless and have no idea what they are doing.

Security costs and it is ongoing process. Security by "we will not pay attention to the hacker and maybe he goes away" is equivalent to head in the sand technique.

Personally I use different passwords but I know that many people do not.
It is stupid, but that is how it is unfortunately. If you store someone's data you have responsibility for it.

This thread should be on the main forum where everyone will see it. Not buried in test section.

ALL OF MY THIS. SO MUCH OF THIS.

Show me a single municipality that's updated their copy of Drupal or Wordpress and I'll show you a municipality that had their website hacked right before they updated it.

Yup Facebook, Message forums....all have different e-mails as they are used for different purposes to avoid Junk Mail, Hacking.....

For example, Facebook has personal e-mail whereas Message Forums have made up e-mail....simple and helps to avoid issues like this thats why I was confused when people were making a big deal of this.

If... IF any data was taken?? The hacker has an entire copy of the GTAM database! Didn't you see the screencaps he posted on the hacked home

no I didn't see that but that confirms my suspicions. Paul the password change is only a good start communication to the community about what's been compromised needs to happen immediately from this point onward we should assume that these hashed passwords are compromised and anyone who uses shared passwords for This site and others should begin changing them now.

also u need to nip these security holes now otherwise it's just going to happen again

Yea I think most people are doing this these days... At least I hope. Generally you don't have to do allot to avoid being hacked just make someone else a easier target.

Truth be told tho if someone wants to hack something bad enough.. They will

People do. I used to in my younger days but that was when the internet was new and I was stupid.

All great points. This is something Paul will want to lock down quick because the community is going to get sick of this quickly.

I changed my email to a crappy one. I guess that's too late. I gotta review my different forum names

Sent from my tablet using my paws

this is true, they sure don't mind spewing crap out when you ask for some posts to be deleted, i was told it is not my propety and it won't be done.

so if these yo'yo's can get people's info here and use it to run some kinda scam then i would think the forum could also be held liable. if it goes that far

+1

FFS, this has been going on for months. We're letting some idiot 12-year old have a laugh at our expense... I mean, hey it's not my site, but maybe that bugs some of the site owners?

Nothing can stop a hacker... but this site just makes it easy.. like walking through an open door versus a closed door or a locked door...

There is a way to find out who got in... but then someone else would be in lol.

I'm sure there's a waiver in the TOS that you had to accept before opening an account made for this very reason
