I guess it's at least partially true. All the guys tell me they just use POF to get laid. All the girls complain that all the guys from dating sites just want to bang them and nothing more.
That's all talk though. All the people that I actually see going on dates go on legit dates and some end up dating. From my experience, there is a big difference between what people say to look cool in front of their friends and what actually happens.

Maybe the homosexual=more promiscuous stereotype is true. I've only met a handful actually looking for a long term thing. I have met with numerous people from dating websites/apps.
No doubt if you sift through all of the bad ones you'll find a few good people. I just don't have a big enough want/desperation for a mate to wait around and filter through hundreds of profiles. Sometimes it can takes hours, days, weeks, months, maybe even years to find someone you're compatible with; who's looking for long term.
Plus I have my own opinions of people who look to dating websites to find people, and it's enough to turn me away from them. We'll leave it at that.
As for how it's different than real life: not everyone walking down the street has the same idea in mind. Whereas people who join a dating site have generally the same idea/thoughts/expectation in mind; so things tend to move a lot quicker and there are no major surprises.
To anyone who has met their SO on a dating website, congrats and good luck in the future; hopefully it lasts a long time.

Dude, of course it's true. Hit up Craiglist and look at the personal ads in the straight sections and than look at the m4m section (no homo). 99% of the gay ones look like this:
"Feeling horny and need some dick tonight. I'm 8 inches length 5 inches girth. Hit me up for a good time."
Seriously, 90% of the gay ads the dudes list their dick measurements, often more so than actual physical/body stats, it's actually pretty funny.
Then look at the straight ones.......especially the ones posted by women. It's like night and day difference. It makes sense though. It's usually the woman that puts the breaks on when it comes to sexual escalation, two dudes = 10 times more sex. I'm actually jealous. If I was gay I'd get laid 10 times more than I do as a straight man but unfortunately I love vagina too much to switch teams.

Depends. I've found most guys can only go once every few days, whereas I can/want to go multiple times everyday.
And, of course, if you meet a guy and he's willing to have sex 10 minutes after meeting; chances are you're not the first person he's done that with. A guy willing to hump after only knowing someone for 10 minutes isn't the kind of guy I'd want to hump; who knows what kind of diseases he might have and how many other people he's humped.
And being blessed with a decently sized endowment...

Dating sites are for people who can't bear being alone. We all know those guys/girls that cant go 2 weeks without finding another bf/gf regardless of whether they are remotely compatible or not. Then theres POF which is pretty much just for hookups.

Why? Honestly you gotta keep an open mind. I've met some very cool people in all sorts of weird/ways places. A lot of my female friends had accounts on POF. Are you calling them all sluts? (Ok some ARE, lol, but not all of them). When you finish school, and get a job that involves zero social interactions with new people you will see that online dating becomes a very viable way to meet chicks and in some ways they can be classier/less slutty than the chicks you pick up at bars and/or clubs. But what do I know, I'm in an exclusive relationship with a girl I've met at a bar, and bedded the first night and she's the nicest, and most faithful chick I've ever met who didn't loose her V-card till her 20's.
