grunge brush = awesome

You guys spend too much time cleaning the outside of your chains.

i got one for about 12 bucks last year (the exact same one) from Canadian tire.

I suppose it works ok, but make sure you wear old clothes cause when you spin the wheel it flings crap everywhere and kinda makes a mess.

It works, but isn't really the best in my opinion.

you're joking right?

Why in the world you would spend so much time and energy trying to extend the life of a sub $100 wear part is beyond me.

dirty chain also wears out the sprockets faster... some people enjoy taking care of their bikes. a 5 min chain clean jobs is pretty easy.

Can you please stop posting things in the wrong sections? This should be in the review section.

I think this is the perfect section actually! Oh and dont get all bent out of shape over a possible misplaced forum posting, geeeeshh!!

some fz6 rider in the US reported 30,000+ MILES (48,000 kms) on stock chain and sprockets in another forum. your 27,000 km is nothing.

Is that really comparable? A Z1 makes a lot more hp/tq than a fz6, so naturally, one would expect that chain to be put under more stress.

Just to throw in another datapoint, I have 29K on my stock chain and its still fine.

you guys are so high tech with your fancy brushes and attachments. rag + kerosene and my chain is sparkling :)

+1 A little elbow grease never hurt.

You can get that chain cleaner off Newenough.com if anyone is interested. I prefer to use a rag though.

As I said before. All you are cleaning is the OUTSIDE of your chain. Chain wear happens on the INSIDE. Most chains wear out from stretching anyway.

I prefer to spend my time and energy on the more expensive parts or the parts that are more time consuming to replace. I also enjoy taking care of my bikes and I'm willing to bet that I have done a boatload more maintenance than you have this season.

I picked up the grunge brush at CT today and I gotta say, it makes cleaning the chain a whole lot easier. Now all I need is a rear stand so I don't have to keep wheeling back and forth in my garage.;-)

I just bot off eBay at

http://cgi.ebay.ca/The-Grunge-Brush-Motorcycle-Chain-Cleaning-Tool_W0QQitemZ230331892598QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotorcycles_Parts_Accessories?hash=item35a0d9c376&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14.l1262&_trkparms=|301%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A30

for about $22 including shipping.

it stupidly never occurred to me that it would throw gunk all around as it cleans the chain so I would appreciate any ideas how to control the mess.

p.s. search eBay on item no. 230331892598 if the link doesn't work

this is how i do it, never had any problem:

- pour kerosene is a small plastic container, kerosene is so cheap $15 at canadiantire for 15L.
- place two layers or cardboard under bike
- dip brush in kerosene, brush the area between the front and rear sprocket
- wear rubber gloves and hold the chain in place with one hand and brush with the other.
- CT also has thick multi-use gloves for $5
- you can pour the dirty kerosene in another container and save it for next time.

drink beer LOL

the straight brush on the other end does throw gunk if you brush too hard, i don't have a need to use it though.

well I read this post this morning, searched a few places on the net and picked up my Grunge Brush and Degreaser which comes in a value pack for $25.

I got it at a bicycle shop called Brown's at Bloor and Jane, the last one they had......

I will take a few before and after pics and will reply later on today if anyone cares to take a look.....

A quick note, this brush is made by Dupont.....which makes very good stuff and they spend a hell of a lot of money on R&D so it should be a good product. as a lube I bought the Dupont multi-use lithium lube which webbikeworld also recommends.
