Got some quotes today - A bit disappointed

WTF ARE YOU GUYS ALL TALKING ABOUT???

op your rates are great...

I'm 28 , no claims, G for 4 years, M2 with RTI this year in may and my rates for ninja 250 are 3500 a year....

so yeah there you go

Oh, and I live in north york

ROFL, you've been a member of this forum for OVER a year and you still don't know how insurance works?

1) You're ineligible for State Farm with only 4 years driving experience (G class license is what matters to them only).
2) You're probably with Jevco with that rate, they go by M experience only, G doesn't matter.
3) With your M2 being under a year old you're being quoted as a first year rider (same as having an M1).
4) Should've shopped around, I'm paying under 3k for an SV650, first year riding.
5) Just because you won't take the time to educate yourself, don't go trying to tell a new rider to allow SF to give him the shaft.

Lol when I was first insured last year, I was paying $1900 for a cbr125 in richmond hill when I was 19 with jevco. No way did you shop around if you're of that age with a small displacement bike.

Did I mention I have an at-fault accident/claim and ticket on my record?

lol dude you must be a huge fan of Dhoom!

However, I do believe because of some low life creatures who drive/ride without insurance, we all have to pay the hefty price :(

Yeah true, especially the ones that do those injury scams with their boys and take monthly cheques from insurances for sitting at home and being "injured"

Maybe it's a typo and he's 18? Just thought of that...but then the 4 years of driving experience would make no sense...lol. 1900 is a little less than mine. I paid $2900 for the SV650 Liability+comp.

I'm not sure how many people responded to one of the member's replies about paying 3500 a year for a 250, but i'll just chime in ... what are you doing ?!?!?!?!?!?!?! ... you're getting raped and then raped again .....

I just put a deposit on a new 2013 kawasaki ninja zx6r 636 and my insurance rate with state farm is 1,140 ( Full Coverage) a year :O:O .. I'm 26, clear driving record with the exception of a minor ticket when i first got my m2 lisence in 2008.

i currently own a 2006 ninja 636 and i'm paying 60 dollars a year cheaper then my new ninja.

So to the OP, if you'd like to check out my state farm rep i'm sure she'd be happy to figure things out for you. PM me and i'll give you her info

Don't even get me started with that, i knew too many people that do that, which is why i don't know them anymore.

Is Hyosung GT 250R a good bike? How is the resale value on these things? Figured that I would ride for one year and put like 5k/6k kms and then move on to something bigger with more experience. Since its a brand new bike, there wont be too much maintenance cost either.

Its alright... mean looking 250. I heard its bad on maintenace but in your case you're only having it for a year so I say go for it. Switch the year after.

is there a motorcycle club I could join which will give me some discount at State Farm?

The only thing you can do to get a discount with SF is bring them your car to insure.

Ya. I hear joining the Hell's Angels gives you a good discount not only with insurance but on gear/apparel too.

Any advice on where to look for insurance for a new rider, 26 yo, male, G for 8 years, just got my m2 this summer (through rti), clean driving record, and just bought a 1982 Suzuki GS850G? (Totally ambitious starter bike, I know).

You got shafted... I live in North York and pay $4000 for a CBR 600RR and am only 21... So you're getting robbed..

I'm M 29, G class for 10 years, M2 in October of this year, with SF for an 05 R6 is 113 a month for liability and comprehensive. They must have entered in your information wrong when you called for the quote

OP, while your quotes seem high I believe it's because SF looks for minimum 5 years of FULL G driving experience (I've heard others claim it's 4 years but I can't verify that). For comparison, here's my stats and coverage when I first signed up with SF last year...

License: Full G ~10 yrs + M1
Age: 30
History: No accidents in past 10 years, 2 speeding tickets, 1 non-pay (god I hate admitting this, it was a BS situation I got screwed on but I digress...)
Vehicle: 2001 Honda F4i (600cc). Bike only, car with different insurer.
Location: North York
Coverage: Theft, liability, comprehensive
KMs to work: Claimed as recreational vehicle approx 5 - 10K km per year
Annual Premium: ~$1200 (just over $100 /mo)

I pay around $1400 now for my '07 RR with collision protection added to my coverage. I now have 1 not-at-fault claim on my record as well.

Good luck!

I just called the SF agent back today and there was a mistake. Apparently, I was entered as 24 years old. Since I am 25 now, the quotes have changed! For ex, 07 CBR is like 1500/year with full coverage and $500 deductible. The 08 Gixxer is $1600 with same coverage. This makes me happy. Now I can wait a bit, save up for the bike and try to keep my record as clean as possible!

Well after reading this thread in full some of you guys need a jar of vaseline. That is all.
