So, 12/12/12 eh. Okay got some quotes and I would like to share them with you guys. They are from State Farm.

Liability only

- 2003 Honda CBR 600 RR (600cc) $3558.96
- 2007 Honda CBR 600RR (600cc) $3650.40
- 2008 Suzuki GSXR 600 (600cc) $3673.20
- 2010 Benelli X49 (49cc) $1562.76

Liability only + comprehensive

- 2003 Honda CBR 600 RR (600cc) $3770.16
- 2007 Honda CBR 600RR (600cc) $3881.76
- 2008 Suzuki GSXR 600 (600cc) $3909.84
- 2010 Benelli X49 (49cc) $1629.72

A bit about myself:
- Male
- 25
- GM2
- I got G1 in 2004, G2 in 2005 and G in 2009
- I got M1 in July and M2 in September of this year
- I did ministry safety course from Centennial College (got the certificate as well)
- Clear, conviction free record (no tickets, no claims)
- Married
- Scarborough
- Have been insured and driving since 2005

I did expect a better quote. Specially, $1600 seems pretty unreasonable for a stupid 50cc scooter.

Something is not right, try another agent.
I was 25 when I signed up with SF and I was paying 1800/year for full coverage with fire and theft on a 2006 gsx-r 750.

Something is def not right, these quotes seem much higher than what they should be. How is your driving abstract and where do you live? These are the only two other factors that could be pushing your rate high but I highly doubt that.

What Mina said, try another agent.

I'm 25.. and I got a quote of 860$ for comprehensive at StafeFarm for a '10 250 ninja as a new rider.

Now I'm worried that the next person I call won't be able to get me the same quote... ****.

Deifintiely should be under $1500 full coverage and under $1000 if you bring your car to them.
I think they have you as a 24yr old.

It really depends on the area where he lives too - i.e. quotes for Pickering can be lower by as much as a grand than quotes for Brampton.

OP, why not start with a smaller bike for the first year or two? Tons of 250, 400, 500 for sale out there with reasonable insurance rates.

i mentioned in my op that i am 25, live in scarborough, married and have clean record hehe. The agent did say to call them back to be just sure. Those are estimates based on the information I provided (again listed in my OP).

Alright, since this gets asked all the time in the proper section, the quick of it: Those are all too high, if those are in fact estimates that would make a lot more sense. Search the Insurance section for brokers who regularly deal with motorcycles so you don't get the run-around from SF. Don't start on a SuperSport. If you come to your senses and get a smaller bike especially since there's a several month gap between your M2 course and the next season, shop around for quotes. Being in Scarborough will drive your rate up, but your SS quotes should be around what your scooter quotes are.

Lol, you're probably going to get flamed for the whole "start on a smaller bike, not a supersport" comment. Also "State Farm is only good for supersports" is false. I know many people including myself that are with state farm with lower quotes than other insurance companies on non-ss bikes.

When it comes down to it, just call other insurance brokers/companies and possibly a SF broker in the Insurance Specialist subsection which specialize in motorcycles.

Lol the forum has a good 50/50 split for big bikes vs small bikes :p I felt obligated to get that in there.

You're absolutely right, I'm going to edit my post. I forgot SF is competitive for new riders with the G experience.

Ah so about $1800/year or $150/month. That would be awesome. The only noob friendly bike I like is a Ninja 300. Too bad they are all brand new and cost $6000. Wonder how bad would be their resale value.......

Yep. 25+ gets you rates in that range. Probably lower, $1800 sounds more like litre bike range (1000cc in case you didn't know). No matter how good the used market for 300s is I don't think they'll resell for retail. They'll probably sit just above or in the high range of the 250 market.

For comparison, I'm 30, male, living in Scarborough (near STC/Woburn) and I'm paying $1200/year on my 2011 CBR250RA with full coverage (TD MM, I also have my car and condo with them atm). I have had a ticket or two in the past but those were so long ago they should be off my record completely by now (neither were for points). I've also had my G for years and years, got my M1 last February, and M2 last April.

Also I have friend 28, male, who lives up near McCowan & Steeles (Scarborough side), 2011 CBR250R and pays the same as me. He has already got a quote on a 2012 CBR600RR with full coverage, and if i recall TD MM wanted around $3600-3800/year for him. I haven't called myself yet.

I do know a lot of it does come down to area -- I didn't ride before I moved so I can't compare the bike, but with the car, when I lived out in Courtice my renewal was going to be $1500/year on my 2006 V6 Accord coupe, and when I moved to Scarborough that jumped to $2900/year.

WTF ARE YOU GUYS ALL TALKING ABOUT???

op your rates are great...

I'm 28 , no claims, G for 4 years, M2 with RTI this year in may and my rates for ninja 250 are 3500 a year....

so yeah there you go

Oh, and I live in north york

just for comparison, waterloo, M, 29, SF, 2 cars + house, $1050 on an 08 1kRR. M1, M2, M rates were all nearly the same regardless of bike (there wasn't any difference when the license class changed). Scarborough will be more expensive, but those quites seem quite high given a clean record and that your 25. w/o cars with SF I think it's 40% more. Good luck on your search

Wow.

I have the same stats as you, except that I ride an SV650 and live in Mississauga, and this year paid $1100.

I got my M this year, but I doubt it will make a difference. Not full coverage tho; just liability & theft - I have other forms of health coverage, and if the bike's a write-off, then so be it.

I live in cambridge and i got quoted 129 a month for a 2009 ninja 250 with no coverage and thats being 23 with SF on a stand alone policy if i join my car it drops to about $67 dollers a month
