Got busted at the Forks for a loud bike!!

...you can get the license plate ticket dropped by putting it back to stock position?!

Worked for a friend, and many others on this forum. A quick search will surely yield existing threads on this matter.

Is this something that can be dropped in court by simply locating a stock exhaust and installing it, then going to court with evidence of recent work in a "there, i fixed it" scenario? Much like the common license plate position tickets we see here every week?

It's possible but not automatic as the issue is the condition of the vehicle at the time that the infraction notice was given, not its current status. Given that they're seriously cracking down on motorcycles at Forks, I would say that this wouldn't be a winning strategy.

I understand, and hope other readers do too. I figured it would be something to try. If you play nice with the law, sometimes it can play nice with you back.
It (playing nice) worked for my careless driving (stupid blanket charge) which was handed to me for my single-vehicle accident.

It's certainly worth a try, but I wouldn't rely on that strategy alone. If it could be shown that the test was improperly performed, then the ticket is invalid. I'd go with that first, if applicable to the situation.

Wow - this subject has generated a lot more feedback than I anticipated, thank you everyone for all the info.

Yeah not quite as good as an oil thread but close. I would suggest that you grab a smart phone db meter and test your bike to the J2825 Standard. If you are way over then just pay the fine. If you are under or marginally above then do the test with calibrated equipment and fight it.

I'm in Ottawa right this moment, there are a lot of motorcycles. Last night for example on the 20th floor I could loudly and clearly hear a motorcycle roaring past while I was lying in bed.

If I can hear you on the 20th floor clearly, I begin to appreciate much more what the people at the Forks have to deal with.

So yeah, I would be in favour of legislation to test for noise. $1000 fines.

Some middle aged self entitled white woman decided yesterday to start yelling...

I fail to see how her being white has any relevance here...
Or her argument would've carried a different weight in your opinion of she were black, brown, yellow or purple??

The only difference would be the descriptor. I simply wanted to paint a complete picture. Middle aged white woman in a new convertible, yelling at motorcyclists. Clear enough? If she was purple would you be more/less annoyed?

Now try hearing that for years and years and years and a lot more than once a day or night. I like all bikes. I like loud pipes and I think they save lives/get you noticed sometimes. I do have an issue with the "cruiser" or harley people with drag pipes (yes even the odd rocket that's just way too loud) that shake windows from hundreds of feet away. I would say the same with cars. Nothing worse than some fart canned piece of crap screaming down the road doing 40. I'm not sure I'd back a fine that high but they do need to do something about raising it and making a standard in which it's tested for to help with the issue. Lastly, I'd like to point out it's not just Belfountain with this law. The reason you're seeing it there so much is because of the people who flock there for a coffee and the 7 minute long twisty road

... and the average income, and associated tax bracket, of the people with the huge houses and big set-backs from the road.

sure but I meant the people in the small houses right there where everyone hauls *** out of the cafe or from the stop sign. There are some families that have been there for generations. Those are the people I can understand with a legitimate complaint.

Your best defending argument in court room should be "LOUD PIPES SAVE LIVES!" :D

They do, but only because bikes will get banned from so many places no one will be riding. It is happening now.

..Tom

Just ordered Quiet Core baffles for my Cobra Dragster pipes.
I love the sound with the stock baffles, but I don't need the hassle.
Too old to be a heatscore.

honestly, everyone asks me why I don't change the exhaust on my bike. I just don't want to put up with this BS about noise laws that I'm seeing popping up more and more.

I've had people try to justify offering a lower price on my bike because it doesn't have an aftermarket exhaust.
