Google Auto Insurance

Another insightful comment from the insurance reps.

It seems we have no common ground. I am dealing with one very obvious fault in the system where the insurance companies take advantage of riders.

If we expand the scam conversation one of the most common scams mentioned on this site is the newbie question about putting their R bike in their fathers name to get cheaper insurance or a similar variation. Dad is an arthritic 60 year old.

There are problems both sides of the fence but I don't see the insurance companies wanting to fix anything on their side. I don't see the government or insurance industries doing anything effective to combat the fraud. I admit there are problems with some riders.

I ask a simple question about a rider with multiple bikes paying triple for coverage he/she can not use in the way of accident benefits. All the insurance industry comes back with is cynical remarks.

Do you honestly feel it is fair that a rider pays $2500 to $3000 for $50K in accident benefits when he is the only rider of three bikes. That is a yes/no question.

yes it's fair because once again I will repeat its a POOL. And the pool has to pay for and take into consideration everyone not just people who have good records or don't make claims.
If you think that someone with three bikes or cars who was allowed to insure only one as a user would never let someone else ride you are dreaming and if there was an accident and bodily injury to a third party you don't think the courts wouldn't say well Mr.insurer you have a policy on this vehicle and I'm not going to let the third party suffer so you are paying. The defence costs from this type of thing would drive the rates right back up or higher. Happens all the time now by the way where Insurance companies are forced to pay or participate in claims of all kinds that they shouldnt be on the hook for.
The system works , you don't like it but it's fair. Many people have been made whole by the insurance industry due to losses that would have destroyed their lives. Talk to those people about your complaints and how it's unfair what you pay. And when you have a big claim one day or someone you care about does you will be thanking God or whoever that you or they had the coverage.
If that answer isn't sufficient then keep yellng at the sky "it's not fair and I know better!"

That's also racist!

Youpay more in Brampton because it's a higher risk area you pay less in otherplaces, but the base premium they need from you has to be what it is no matterwhere you live in ontario.
That's racist....... Bro!

I’m not sure what’s racist about that comment.
At one time the Toronto area that started with postal code “M” was the highest rated area in Ontario where drivers paid the most premium, for the last 4-5 years Brampton has been creeping up as the area with the most claims and as of right now it has surpassed Toronto.

I remember 20 years ago when I purchased my first car, my insurance for the year was $3700, and that was 20 years ago, today, a new driver pays almost the same, they’re paying around $4000/year.
The insurance has not increase that much from 20 years ago. I was making $5.25/per hour working part-time, what’s the minimum wage today $11?

If I was to compare what we pay today vs 20 years ago, I’d say insurance is much cheaper and more affordable as we are making more per hour and the rates are almost the same.

I know Carlos is in insurance as per his signature. Sonny, you're in the insurance game too?
And to one of your points, I may be alone here, but, if I had multiple bikes, there would be no way that anyone would ride one but me. My wife doesn't even drive my Pilot.
And there's still some wops left in the b town. My fam won't leave. No matter what I say.

even if 99 percent of people obeyed the multiple bike rule the 1 percent who would let people ride would ruin it for everyone else. Like street racing morons brought the rest of us the stunting and 50 over law.
Im deep in the game for many years, owner,President, hand model for insurance brochures....And no I don't get insurance discounts even then.

He was kidding me. And your other points are true

I would expect the insurance agents to vigorously defend the industry that supports them and so should you. Likewise, Bell and Rogers employees also think that our cell phone rates are fair.

I didn't really defend I just stated facts. if a farmer told you the same things I did you would then believe them?

GTA has the worst drivers in the country = GTA has highest rates in the country.

No matter how good a driver you are in any vehicle in any place in the GTA, you are surrounded by the worst drivers in the country. Your insurance reflects that. Being manipulated by government makes insurance feel like buying a ticket to ride, but it's actually for protection against all those idiots around you.
Just as your guns get bigger and better when you live in shadier places, so your insurance needs to be "bigger and better". Except one the government doesn't want you to have and the other they do, but that's government for you. Take all the money in your RSP and buy shares of insurance companies if you think they make so much money for shareholders. You're going to spend years wondering waiting for that payoff, especially with low interest rates (hint: insurance profits come from investing premiums, not raising premiums).

ICBC has been in the past subsidized by tax money. It was run by bureaucrats in the past. The hired these things called actuaries once the lynch mob found out how they were operating. It's too bad for non taxpaying insurance payers in BC, they're going to be fairly charged for insurance. Haven't lived there in 17 years but I was 20 when I left and my car insurance with 4 tickets a year for 4 years (zero points if paid by birth date) and and total write off at fault accident was almost $50 a month. I'm sure things are different now.

well said..
Are you in the insurance industry or can the above conspiracy theorists believe you?

Well I think your memory is fuzzy . Or just wrong.

Actually he makes a good point. What's with the duplicated coverage? Even you must admit it's ridiculous. I can only ride one bike a time; I can only drive one car at a time. If I have 5 vehicles, it should only cost me an administrative fee to have the other 4.

EDIT: I read further; you asserted that it's ridiculous to think I'd never let someone else borrow a vehicle. Well, believe it -- I'd never let someone borrow my bike. Why can't I sign an affidavit to that effect? I KNOW those affidavits exist for other circumstances (explicitly excluding other drivers in the house etc). I just want to exclude everyone in the world except me.

You must've had a piss-poor broker or something. My dad tells me stories of ~$600/yr insurance around 1988. Tells me he's never paid more than the $1600/year he was paying for his Harley.

Want a good example. When I was 16 my mum put me on as an "occasional driver" I never heard the end of it costing 375 a year and I should be lucky I didn't have to pay it. Fast forward to 2010. A guy at work who lives down the road from my old house has 2 teenage kids (16 and 17) and 3 cars. He calls to put them on occasional to be told no and the rate he was given for them to be insured was 2100 each. Seems realistic.

Carlos you and I grew up somewhere completely different then. When I was 17 it was 1995 and I had a 1989 5.0 mustang that cost me 104 a month. What did you drive that cost 3700? A ferrari?

I'll excuse myself from this thread now. Insurance here is a total joke auto or otherwise. I get it's some peoples career choice so arguing it is pointless.

OK it's a pool so we all pay the same but we don't. The pool gets adjusted up if you present a greater risk through age*, sex*, violations, claims or vehicle choice.

Why can't the rate be adjusted down based on risk level?

* Illegal in just about any other business.

it is adjusted down, some are up some are down. What are you talking about????? People on here have even posted about rate decreases they got.
if you sign up for the telematics you also get an instant 10 percent decrease and a possible up to 25 percent at renewal.

Telematics - insurance-speak for "the data that we need to deny your claim".

I think anyone who takes telematics is not smart...however. They only monitor you for 6 to 9 months and then you remove the telematic device. Based on that they give you a bigger discount or remove the discount they gave you . They won't increase your premiums . That's for now, the next round will be usage and driving style based and your premium would be adjusted monthly up or down depending.
its all volunteer at this point.
as far as denying your claim. They won't do that unless you commit a criminal code offence and even then they will still pay third party claims. Your car now has a computer that can tell them all they need to know if they need that info.
