Good poutine?

I have a friend visiting from New Jersey. He wants to try poutine. I live in Brampton, so it's too bad he wasn't looking for good, authentic Indian food. Anyone know a place around that has great poutine? Mississauga or Milton areas perhaps?

There was some snotty downtown bistro selling gourmet poutine. Gravy from organic beef, weird cheese, exotic(?) fries. If you're going to die of a heart attack it might as well be a healthy one.

Screw jack astors, they asked me once if I wanted to upgrade my fries to a poutine. So I asked if they used cheese curds, or just shredded cheese. Of course the answer, sorry, no we don't use cheese curds. Lol, it's not a poutine without cheese curds.

Call me crazy, but unless I make it myself, I've always liked burger king (I really don't feel right saying that though). Of course my wife swears by Sonnys, but I'm. It a fan of that place to be honest.

I make mine with homemade fries, but clubhouse gravy and store bought curds (I haven't started making cheese yet). Oh, there's a place downtown (brampton) called Poutine, but I haven't been there yet.

Best poutine I ever had was in some little town in northern Quebec, abit far but worth the bike trip there :).
Jack Astors has recently revamped there menu and they have pretty good poutine now with real cheese curds.
Another place that has surprisingly good poutine is Swiss Chalet/Harvey's.

I've heard good things about http://www.poutini.com/ in Queen West

Honestly, I'm a poutine fanatic and haven't found a place in Toronto that beats Montreal yet...having said that.

Poutini is a place that comes close
At the Pour House off Dupont, the poutine there is pretty good too.

I'm not a fan of Smoke's Poutinere. Personally, their poutine to me isn't really "poutine". It's fries drenched in a whole lotta different toppings. It's cool if you want nacho fries..but not so great if you're actually wanting poutine LOL.

my 2 cents =)

+1...the toppings aren't bad but it's not poutine poutine...you know? I still go there, though. :D

And +1 to whoever said burger king poutine LOL. I feel like a jerk eating it but I love every bite.

I tried New York Fries' beef poutine once and it was pretty tasty...a little dry by the time you got to the bottom, though.

+1 on Jack Astor's poutine, since they claim "its so good, even KGB wants to steal recipe! so many choices on menu, u need the entire soviet army to finish plate!"

la station in hull, qc had some of the best poutine.

3 things are important when making poutine - the fries, two many places use frozen ****. fresh cut and soaked in cold water. the type of potato is important too. I like them double deep fried. the gravy, it must be smooth, almost like a sauce. the curds must be squeaky fresh.

Go to the A&W at Queen and Chrysler, and get him the crappy fast food version. Trust me, it's better than he's used to getting at US A&W restaurants.

I was disappointed with Smoke Poutine too.

I've actually got a weakness for the poutine at Harveys. I didn't know Burger King and A&W sold poutine as well. I'll have to try them and Jack Astors too.

As for the BEST poutine I've had (outside of Montreal), that would have to be, hands down, at a casual upscale bar/restaurant called Vertias on King. They top it with shredded duck confit. :P

Oh wait...the poutine up at Moose Winooski's in Barrie has never let me down.

Also, there's this place in Kensington Market that offers butter chicken poutine. It's quite good.

I hate saying this too but dont mind Burger Kings poutine, also not mentioned for fast food chains South St Burger has a decent poutine...but as others said nothing beats getting it in a place like Mont Tremblant...cant wait to go back!!!

Smokes is an abomination to what poutine should be.

Jack Astors isn't much better.

New York Fries has a surprisingly good poutine.
