Good/fast/cheap

I'm experiencing this first hand as I'm shopping for a used car right now.
One thing I've noticed is that cars located in Newmarket and north are consistently more expensive than say cars in Etobicoke or Burlington.
I won't drive 2 hours to save a hundred bucks, but when the difference is a thousand or more...

Interesting observation. City people lease cars and the used car market is softer? @Mina has a used car store in TO IIRC. It may be worth reaching out.

I notice the same thing last spring when shopping. Anything north of King Rd prices climbed dramatically for used.
I bought my toyota from K&L auto in Vaughn, good pricing and easy to work with.

Try finding a good used pick up these days. I have a construction contract for the next five years so have been seeking a decent deal on one for a few weeks and finding out that they are in high demand everywhere.
My Buddy in Gravenhurst says things are tougher up there as he had to drive to Sudbury for his and it was pretty beaten up.
I went ahead and put a deposit on a new Tacoma truck this week but have no idea when i can expect it. At least I know that when I finish my contract, I shouldn't lose too much of it's value when I unload it.

It was about a week of being really obsessive for me. I'm going to have it for 7 or 8 years and I didn't want to feel like I rushed into a sale.

I was looking for 2L or larger 4 cylinder hatch with manual under 80,000k under 10,000$
They're out there, but they tend to have questionable Carfax reports. I loosened up the purse strings and bought a loaded focus with 37k on the clock.

Why does engine size matter? Or were you looking for non-turbo? The little turbo engines have gotten pretty good. At ~1.4 you can get amazing real world fuel mileage and respectable power (150 to 200 hp). At 1.8, more fuel is consumed but you can get 250+ hp. It's crazy how much power they are reliably extracting compared to a few years ago.
They haven't filtered down into the used market enough for the price point I was looking for. Plus, I have a bias against GM for taking bailout money and closing the Oshawa plant.
I've heard recently that they're reopening it though
The 1.6L Kia was a good car. No problems towing my beach catamaran but I'm building a slightly larger trimaran and I don't want to kill the new car prematurely. Perhaps towing shortened the life of the Kia, but I got 282k out of it with very little maintenance. People lose their __it over the topic of towing trailers with small cars, but my experience is if I drive like I had a driving instructor beside me, it's all good. I'm probably harder on my car when I'm not towing something.

Towing with a small car, the boogie man's way of up-selling. A lot of the same cars are OK for towing in Europe but not North America. Use common sense. The greater danger is not being able to turn or stop.
A buddy does new car prep work for a GM dealer and they are busy. Covid recession isn't hitting them. I have run GM products when they fit the job but resent them trying to kill me to save a dollar a car.
I don't understand the pickup truck market. When I see the prices it makes me think manure hauling is very profitable.
