Goddamn brake lines... I need help.

So did you fix your brake line problem? You didn't sound completely satisfied in the last post that wasn't about trackside bromances.

Yeah, I actually accomplished the job this morning after spending late last night trying stuff. My biggest issue was to keep the banjo fittings rotated properly at the master cylinder while tightening and crushing the washers. I went through a few attempts (about a dozen aluminum washers wasted), then I ran out of washers. Picked some up this morning, and on a fresh mind I did it, I think it's good now---lines are not touching anything at all in all suspension positions, so I'm happy. I'll fill it up and bleed it with motul 660 later today, fingers crossed for no leaks!

Aww damn, that sucks :(

I was on -2/+1 530 last year (courtesy of the previous owner of the bike). I really wanted to break 300kph because people keep saying my R1 can never do it, so I needed slightly taller gearing. With my previous gearing my top speed was 292kph (GPS). With my new gearing (-1/+2 520) my theoretical top speed is now 305KPH. It pulled hard right to the rev limiter/292kph before, I can't see it being that much harder for it to get to 305!!! :D

Schmexy!!!

I had a hard time keeping the front down at TMP before anyway, so the slightly taller gearing should help (along with my new linear fly by wire throttle map).

You're doing it wrong. The more warnings you get, the harder you push

Sounds good, see ya there on the 2nd hopefully!!! I'll be careful, but I have my bike decked out with (cheap china) GoPro's so we should have some good footage if I crash

taller gearing wont help with the problems at tmp, you need throttle control, ive had every sprocket combo on the r1 and -1 +1 is the best for that track,
300 kph ? where are you trying to go that fast? ....ive been to njmp the last turn is 100mph before the straight and I barley top'd out.

ill be at the april 7th if the weather is good, see you there

Yeah, I had a very aggressive throttle map in my ECU at the time:

I've loaded in this one and in my only ride so far this season, seems a lot better. Doesn't just feel like off throttle/WIDE OPEN anymore :)

Now that I'm able to do per-gear maps on R6's and 07/08 R1's (09+ R1's have always been able to do it) I might experiment with more tame tables in gear 1 and 2, but more aggressive from 3rd on, not sure how that'd feel, haven't tried it yet :)

Obviously there isn't a track where I can get to 300 ;) lol.

Hopefully see ya on the 7th!!! :D

Yes there is, I doubt you can but Mosport's back straight is there
On a somewhat stock R1 motor? lol. Good luck.

lol. I'm just saying, if the CSBK guys barely get to 300 at mosport, my mere stock R1 engine ain't gonna get me there :)

Best thread jack ever.

How's those lines ? They better be done !
You know me, I love to jack!!!

Apparently he's got the lines installed to his satisfaction but hasn't stress tested them yet

Lol, bled the lines, looks like I've got brakes now, YEEAH ;)

Anyway, why do I have to learn everything the hard way---I bled the master refilling the reservoir when it goes low. When absolutely no bubbles, I did the left caliper, and was already getting good pressure. When no bubbles, moved to the right caliper, already celebrating how I got this done in 5 minutes or so! ....of course, Murphy's law, just when I thought---I'll pump a couple more times and I'm done----goddamn, reservoir was empty and I sucked air in, lol.... Anyway, it's all good now, my 5 minutes turned into a half an hour. Bike's sitting with a cable tie on the lever overnight to see if it will leak somewhere, prognosis is good for now :) My bike now has the firmest lever I've ever squeezed!

Bonus question: how often do you usually change your racing brake fluid? I put Motul RBF 660, I know it's supposed to be changed more often as it absorbs moisture faster.

Bonus question 2: for how long is the left over brake fluid in the bottle good for? I made sure I was closing the cap immediately after each refill.

Good stuff Orlin,glad to see you are all hooked up and ready to go.I went to the bike show and was so so tempted to buy a track bike that I saw for sale.This season I'll come out to one of the thursday track days with my batallack and see what its all about and if I likey likey then we will fight for supremacy LOL .

Anyway you gotta get a street bike as I don't think you're gonna last and DON'T look in the rides section there's gonna be lots of action this year with all the new blood :laughing6::laughing6:
take care Orlin and see you around

Maybe if you compromised your entry into 5B so you get a better launch onto the straight, and then dove deep into 8 going wide on the exit, you could do it? Worth a try.

~~~chuckles~~~
It'd be great if you join, Manny, it will be fun to have you around for sure!
Street bike---no, I don't think so, not a supersport anyway. I cringe every time I remember how I used to ride the streets. I honestly feel like a survivor (even though I never crashed...unlike some people who were following our lead, I'm sure you recall at least one really funny story, maybe more, not sure if you were on those rides).
Anyway, neighbor in house next to mine started warming up his FJR1300 in the driveway almost every day...and I thought I'll be jealous, but I didn't feel a thing :)
