GM2 at a ride check... SURPRISE!

Well. Not too impressed with the yuppies that pushed this crap, the MADD organization for being the money behind it and the politicians for thinking it's a great idea.

Had a single beer tonight at 3:30 or 4 pm.
At 6:45 I hit a ride check coming back on to base after going to the liquor store so I could drink responsibly back in the shacks.
Officer asks if I have had a drink. I tell him I had a beer after work at about 3:30. He then looks at my license...

Says I'm on a G2 license.
I remind him I'm not, show him my G that I've had for the last decade...

Apparently I'm now a G2 driver?! How the hell did I lose my G rating?! What about my insurance on my truck? Am I still considered a G driver with 10 years as one? What about driving other peoples vehicles and their insurance?

WTF happened, and WHY wasn't this something that was widely made public? Why didn't I at least get something in the Mail telling me what I could previously do legally was now illegal? They at least should have sent something to all of us GM2 drivers.

I'm not ****** that I can't drink and drive, I'm not that kind of guy. What pisses me off, is having something taken away that I have used responsibly. Something that I should be able to do and not being discriminated against because I ride a bike and haven't had the chance yet to upgrade.
Now, it's like I'm 18 again and can't even go have a single beer with my dinner and not worry about my life being destroyed if I get caught.
Good thing he told me and let me go, or this could have been a REAL big mess for me.

If your DL says "G2M2" you can't have a beer.
If your DL says "GM2", you can't have a beer while using a motorcycle.
If your DL says "GM", drink up.

Yeah, I explained to the MP that it meant no booze with the bike, but I still have my full G in it's full entitlement...

And another thing...sorry for the hijack..why can't passengers drink in a vehicle while in motion?? Every frickin police car has a breathalyzer now..what exactly are they trying to prevent?

I'd have a little chat with his superior and have him straighten his butt out.

Oh crap....I thought it was only while riding too. **** so let me get this straight if I am driving my car I can't have any alcohol in my system cause I'm still a M2? Even more insentive to get my M as soon as I can.

Confusing thread at best .... GM2 means you can have a beer and drive. You certainly cannot ride. The cop was an ***, that's all.

Yes it can happen to all of us. Like with everything in life ....

I was also afraid of this. So I asked a Peel Regonal Officer. He told me as long as you have your GM2 you can still drink with the car. If you are on your bike you can not have any booze what so ever.

Did you get a charge? If so I would fight it.

Yes there is a lot of cops that are jerks but there is also a lot of nice ones that would have sent you on your way. Just to bad you got the jerk.

Not sure what you mean? That the RIDE program is a bad thing? Yes, it can be a bit of a PITA, but what is the alternative? Lots of people drive to the liquor store loaded, so it's a place you can expect it to possibly be set up.
I believe an MP has the same powers as any Police Officer when he is on the base. If you were foolish enough to lie to him because it is inconvenient, as has been suggested, that you had not consumed alcohol and he knew better by the smell, he would breathalyser you and you would be charged with a more serious offence regardless of whether or not you were under the limit. Yes, it is inconvenient. It sounds as though the MP was misinformed about the laws. If you were in your car, then there should be no problem. If you were on your bike with a M2, then the legal amount is 0%.
If you are charged on your bike, it would affect your insurance on your car.

Re-read there buddy. I believe he said that the MP told him he can't have any alcohol in his sytem while he drives his car because he's a GM2. He MP was incorrect or just being a dick.

Haha! No, I'm serious! What's the point of that law? You can drink in a limo. If they're worried about the driver being drunk, every car has a breathalizer. Just test the driver! I suppose this is the gov't saying that the driver can't be trusted to not drink with the temptation there?? We manage the designated driver thing. Is it really that bad?!?
