Giving up your bike

This will be when I stop. As ZZ Ward sings, "When the Casket Drops"

I would give up riding only if, after weighing the pros and cons, I have something to gain by a factor of 2 (as per Schulich's method).

If it's 50/50, then it's not worth it, even if it's for a 458.

Personally, if I were you, I would take real estate (or cash) over a car.

funny thing about supercars..people dream about driving them all day if they can, but the reality is they rarely do more than 1000km a year and are often sold within 24 months.

I was thinking the same lol but it's more like 20 bikes if it's a high end Ferrari or Lamborghini.

But honestly...driving a status car is just that, a status car. I've seen high end cars circling karaoke clubs and etc., the driver comes off as a huge ****** bag no matter how many looks he gets.

....with that said, on a serious note, full amputation of a limb would cause me to stop riding only because I physically can't!

..wait..people circle karaoke clubs?

I will give up my bikes to exchange for food on the table for my family. But when family is wealthy enough I would pick up another bike again.

I will give up riding to become a world traveller. But if I am tired of it I would like to have the options to pick up riding again.

I will give up motorcycle when I am physically incapable. But it won't stop me to explore other way to ride it. (Inspired by Dave)

Its not about riding or not. Its about the freedom of having an option of what I can do in my life.

Start giving up stuff for a girlfriend, boyfriend or spouse then you might as well give up your freedom to make any serious decisions for the rest of your life It is a slippery slope when it starts. If you give up riding or your bike do it because you have reached your limit or need to make a serious sacrifice to get something else.

You are an adult so no one should ever tell you to give up something that you truly love and makes you happy.

110 percent ask me how I know
Lol give up the wife keep the perverbial riding pants

Great response.

That doesn't work, because the first thing that will go through your mind at an exotic location is , "man, I'd love to ride that road".

Men give up bikes for fatherhood, and pick them up again years later. It's responsible. It's ok.

Well put.

With every passing day this summer, I found it harder and harder to get on my motorcycle and enjoy myself. It was a combination of high insurance, lack of enjoyable roads without travelling 2 hours in either direction, increased police attention to motorcyclists etc.
I prefer my car as a commuter so I can sip coffee and waft away without having to pay (as) much attention.

The cost of insurance and maintenance for the 4-5 nice summer rides just doesn't justify the enjoyment to me anymore. In perspective, I put about $2,500 towards insurance and maintainence this year and rode for about 5,000 km. $0.50/per km.

I got offered a great price on my SS and decided to let it go. I'm contemplating what to do next year, but the thought of looking over my shoulder for police at every turn isn't making riding on the street very appealing. Playing around with the idea of dirt bike / track only

I prefer to ride than stand around and chat (not that there's anything wrong with that).

Anyone else feel the same way?

Yup, happens a lot. Have a few friends that get their dream car and ends up either selling it, not driving it often, and asking themselves what they're going to do with the power that they have along with really ****** gas mileage.

I ride for various reasons:
1. I cant afford insurance for a car due to an accident that occurred 4 years ago.
2. Cheap on gas.
3. Free parking at school.
4. Loved bikes as a kid and love seeing/exploring new areas.

Tell to take it to the track or highway ramps! Just don't use any of the ramps we use! lol

I swear I saw a McLaren in the Richmond Hill area before even though its supposed to be illegal on public streets in Canada.....

Then theres NextMod's GTR.

Another bigger dilemma. Would you give up SEX for riding????

2 Scenarios:

1) Your wife withhold sex until you sell your bike.

2) You are single, young and insurance sky high, paying $4000+ a year just on insurance. With all other expenses like gas, gear, repair and maintenance... up to $6000 running cost a year. If you give up riding, you can allocate that to 'guaranteed' sexual encounter with a prostitute once a week. :D

Or...

3) Find another girl that accepts you for who you are?

PS. Women have urges too...

to counteract #1, withhold yard work and heavy chores until sex resumes; for #2, offer transportation service to escort agencies in exchange for freebies

You mean assuming he does not tell them that his mommy and daddy bought him a fancy car to keep him from playing with motorcycles? :)

chick dont care who bought the car, or where the money comes from, as long as you are rich then they will like you
