I will give up my bikes to exchange for food on the table for my family. But when family is wealthy enough I would pick up another bike again.
I will give up riding to become a world traveller. But if I am tired of it I would like to have the options to pick up riding again.

That doesn't work, because the first thing that will go through your mind at an exotic location is , "man, I'd love to ride that road".
Men give up bikes for fatherhood, and pick them up again years later. It's responsible. It's ok.

With every passing day this summer, I found it harder and harder to get on my motorcycle and enjoy myself. It was a combination of high insurance, lack of enjoyable roads without travelling 2 hours in either direction, increased police attention to motorcyclists etc.
I prefer my car as a commuter so I can sip coffee and waft away without having to pay (as) much attention.
The cost of insurance and maintenance for the 4-5 nice summer rides just doesn't justify the enjoyment to me anymore. In perspective, I put about $2,500 towards insurance and maintainence this year and rode for about 5,000 km. $0.50/per km.
I got offered a great price on my SS and decided to let it go. I'm contemplating what to do next year, but the thought of looking over my shoulder for police at every turn isn't making riding on the street very appealing. Playing around with the idea of dirt bike / track only
I prefer to ride than stand around and chat (not that there's anything wrong with that).
Anyone else feel the same way?

Yup, happens a lot. Have a few friends that get their dream car and ends up either selling it, not driving it often, and asking themselves what they're going to do with the power that they have along with really ****** gas mileage.
I ride for various reasons:
1. I cant afford insurance for a car due to an accident that occurred 4 years ago.
2. Cheap on gas.
3. Free parking at school.
4. Loved bikes as a kid and love seeing/exploring new areas.

1) Your wife withhold sex until you sell your bike.
2) You are single, young and insurance sky high, paying $4000+ a year just on insurance. With all other expenses like gas, gear, repair and maintenance... up to $6000 running cost a year. If you give up riding, you can allocate that to 'guaranteed' sexual encounter with a prostitute once a week.

to counteract #1, withhold yard work and heavy chores until sex resumes; for #2, offer transportation service to escort agencies in exchange for freebies
