Girls - what do you think of the gear selections?

^^ Thanks for the link, there is a few jackets there that she might like...
Will check it out with her sometime next week, if she hasn't found anything by then.

The lack of riding gear for us is my biggest pet peeve. Same as you, Mahnoy, I despise pink and any gear that infantilizes me. I look like a woman. I have boobs. I don't need pink or baby blue to add to that. I would say, however, that my biggest pet peeve is the lack of safety technology that goes into women's specific gear. Look at boots or gloves, for example. Technologies go into men's gear years before we start seeing it in ours. The women's Sidi Vertigo Lei are inferior compared to what's available for men. And those are the best we can get? Our top rated glove is the A* GP Plus?! Look at what's available to men. I bought a pair of Knox Biomech gloves. Knox claims the size 'small' is women's specific. IDK. I have very long fingers and these so-called 'small' gloves are still too big.

It seems to me that gear designers think all we care about is looking cute and sexy. Not that some of us actually care about what could happen to us in a crash, and perhaps, gear shop accordingly.

/rant.

EDIT: Sorry, I didn't know this was an old thread.

^^ LoL... feeling better at least?

I agree with your statement about the technology not being up to par with the men's gear.
The boots they had for women at GP's were pretty much high top leather boots with no padding what so ever.
She might get a really small size men's instead.
Small Dainese gloves fit her perfectly, so that wasn't an issue.

Having a tough time with the jacket though, really.

She didn't mind the idea of textile, but it was hard finding one that was simple and plain.
Looks like I'm going to have to take her around a few stores but I was hoping to get some hints from the ladies of GTAM as to what they found and where.
She has a few leather jackets at home but without armour and what not, she might just wear one of those until the January show, hopefully there she'll find something that she'll like.
Would rather not wait though...

I already posted this earlier in the thread, but I have a Joe Rocket women's Sonic jacket which I picked up from Royal Distributing a few years back. http://www.joerocket.com/catalog/index.cfm/243/167/Leather_Jackets/Ladies_Sonic_[hybrid]

If you ignore the leopard print inner-lining, it's a pretty basic black leather jacket with armour. I know GP Bikes was carrying it at their old location. Maybe check their online catalogue.

I'm assuming she has tried the Dainese jackets? They had a good selection of them at RC last time I was there. I ended up going Dainese for my 1-piece suit (small men's since the women's suit just didn't work for me), and 2-piece textile (which in women's cut did work for me). I also ended up with men's Dainese boots because they're really narrow. I have very narrow feet, so even so-called "women's" boots are typically way too wide and roomy for me.

Sorry, I quickly glanced at the posts before I posted.
She might actually like that, thanks for the suggestion, I'll take her to RD sometime this week.

Agreed if you like pink that's cool, but I like subtle as well, I saw some nice Scorpio stuff that fits the bill and after reading about its fit might try it out.... I'm sure selection is better now then it ever was but it be nice to see more, I had my jacket on with my backpack the other day and noticed if your Busty the extender straps that go over the bust barely shut...grrr! Definetly made for men in mind!

Icon seems to be the best for fashion and protection. The vendors are slowly catching on.

For instance;

Kahuna can order anything from the ICON line. Another vendor may give a better price though, I just don't know who else sells ICON.

If you are interested in a fellow's opinion, start with a little bracelet embroidered with "WWAJD?" (What would Angelina Jolie do?) and go from there.

WOMENS APPAREL RESEARCH

Hey, My name is Brie. I am a 3rd year fashion design student at Ryerson and am doing a research project on women's protective gear. I need feedback from as many WOMEN riders in the Greater Toronto Area as possible, and thus need YOUR help! If you are a women rider please spend a few minutes answering these questions! If you know any women riders please spread the word to them, and get them to answer these questions!

They can be emailed back to me at skippy_03_@hotmail.com, as well as any questions, concerns, or comments!

Thanks for your support!
Brie

- What do you ride now? What did you start out on? (Brand, Colour, and CC's)
- Do you find there is enough women's protective gear available?
- What is your main source of purchasing protective gear/ apparel?
- How many riding jackets, pants, boots, gloves do you own?
- What would make you buy more? (eg. tax rebates, proven safety levels, colours, fit, styling, fashion trends, availability)

- What colours do you find most in the women's apparel?
- Do you wish there were other colours more readily available? What colours?
- Do you normally wear pink? What are your thoughts on pink in the women's riding industry?
- Do you own a pink riding jacket, or WOULD you own a pink riding jacket?

PADS
- What pads does your jacket (s) come with? Are they removable? Do you think they are sufficient?
- Do you find the protective padding in women's jackets thinner, thicker, or the same as mens?
- Do you find the padding sits in the correct place while you are riding? If not where does it sit? Too high, too low?
- If you had a jacket custom made what would you change about the pads?

FIT
- Do you think that women's jackets are shaped to fit women or are they too similar to mens jackets?
- Do you think women's pants are shaped to fit women or are they too similar to mens pants?
- Do you have fit issues with apparel you have tried on in the stores, or that you own? If so, WHAT is wrong? HOW would you fix it?
eg. Jacket too short when riding, sleeves to short, shoulders too wide, too tapered at waist, not tapered enough?

SIZING
- Do you find the sizing of the jacket you wear different than that of a normal jacket?
- What size riding jacket(s) do you own? What size of fall jacket (non riding) do you generally wear?
- Do you think the sizing of jackets is wrong or correct? Would you change their sizing/ size charts?
- Do you think special sizes of gear are available enough? (eg, xxs, xxl, long, short, etc)

GENERAL
- What do you like about jackets available to women?
- What do you want changed about them? (I would love ALL the feedback you have!)
- Other thoughts, questions, concerns!

If you dont have any luck finding a jacket from RC in your price range for your girl, go to Velocity. He has great womens jackets and most of them are all black or all white. You can also order a custom jacket from him for under $500, so she can get exactly what she wants.

Don't know why I never thought of Velocity, may be a great idea actually.
She won't be 2-upping any more this season, so we'll check out the January show and if she doesn't find anything there then I guess we'll be paying Velocity a visit!

Thanks for the suggestion.

Pretty sure they will be at the January or Spring show too. No prob, I know how fustraiting it can be finding gear that fits right and looks good and itsn't rediculously girly.

She found a Dainese Retro jacket that was just gorgeous, but for 2 upping, I don't think she should spend 800$ on a jacket that she won't wear as often. If she was actually riding herself, then yes... I'd pay the difference and get it for her.

Her big problem is the fit, especially around the chest area, I asked her to try a men's jacket on and she just looked at me weird... lol
