Getting ready for the season

It has probably been said already, but you cant out train a bad diet, its a lot easier controlling what goes in than trying to burn it off after the fact.

You can change a life style ;) get a big dog that needs lots of walking and make sure you walk him lots, that will do it. If he is uncontrollable on a leash even better , more exercise.

unless you are planing on chasing your dog as it is trying to catch a hare for an hour or 2 a day i'm afraid it wont do much if your eating like crap

a 1hr walk will burn roughly 200 - 300 calories while a chocolate chip muffin from Tims is over 400

While I agree to a point. It depends on circumstance. At our camp...the food is good...but fatty as ****. I've been able to put away the breads, potatoes (except steak night!) and some of the bad stuff (1 pepsi / week). But it's so difficult.

My weight has been up and down over the last few weeks, but I went from 181lb when I got here...down to 177lb this morning. That's 2 weeks even.

Can't wait to get home this weekend!

That's not looking at it as a life style change, you are looking at it as fuel consumption.
A dog is a reason to get up early in the morning and take him for the first walk of the day, not his only walk of the day.

it doesn't matter how many walks you take him on, if your diet consists of fast food and snickers bars.

Why would your diet ever consist of only fast food and snickers bars :/ that sounds more like your work is getting in the way of you eating properly, then you not getting enough healthy outdoor exercise regularly.

I get what you are saying. However your motivation has to come from within. If you get a dog or any other external motivating factor, you may start resenting the task. I dogsit for my sister's dog. I have it a week at a time (maybe less) and glad to see it leave. The nice days I don't really have an issue taking it for a walk, but when its cold/raining, bad weather and the dog needs to get out. I hate it. I hate having to get out in the cold rain, I hate having to bring the wet dog into the house and trying to control it to dry it off. And then the smell. Ugh.

That is fantastic! 1-2 lbs lost per week is healthy. Keep it up. Create a new norm for your body.

I don't think mbroyda was being literal. Essentially if you are eating badly, doesn't matter what physical activity you do, you'll still be in bad shape. Food is fuel. Better the fuel, better the results. I am sure you would agree. You wouldn't put any oil/grease in/on your bike. Why would you put crap in your body?

You nailed it, animals always came first in my house growing up which is unusual.
I require at least 1 dog and 1 wife at all times.

... lol you also don't sound like a trials rider, we don't give $%^& how bad the weather conditions are, just ride!

On the contrary. I love mountain biking. However I tend to be out when it is dry. Doesn't have to be hot, I have been in the hills in Nov when it is 0 in the morning, frost on the ground. Now that particular time I knew the sun was going to be out so felt warmer.

I don't blame you, your mountain bike probably doesn't even have fenders ;) I think half the events I ever competed in were in terrible weather conditions, which sometimes works to my advantage and the rest of them threw in enough river and swamp crossings to make up for it.
April 25 & 26th I will be riding the Tweed event even if it snows (y) and I already know I am going to have a great time regardless.

You started working out too.. if I remember right.
I wouldn't put too much into what the scale says. If you are working out.. you're probably putting on muscle as you lose fat.. You might not see the fat loss on the scale.. and may even gain weight while losing fat cause of the muscle gains.

Yes I have been. Missed only 2 days in 2 weeks as my back pinched during a deadlift...so taking it easy with that exercise now. It's been great. Hard to get out of bed at 3am to hit the gym...but easier than fighting for space at 7pm.
Mind you I go to bed at 9pm here...not much to do in the evenings.

If calories were the only criteria lard and water would keep you alive. They would for a while but as your body depletes its minerals, vitamins etc your various systems shut down.

Not sure if a serious response or you’re trolling, but it was an example of what I was saying in my original post, you can’t out train a bad diet........even with a big dog.

Not sure...
Everything you wrote I am sure is correct for your body
but I can only speak for my body and it don't work that way.

and now you have me wanting those big Timmy Apple Cinnamon donuts :| do they still sell those? I could eat about 6 right now.
