Getting a bike safetied from home?

Ted was perfect for what I needed. He safetied 5 bikes for me. 2 at my house. I wanted to get it over with with MTO asap due to time restrictions with work and weather.

As for a thorough inspection - it is not the same thing as a safety. People constantly confuse the 2.

Revrandy - please stay where you are and never come back to Toronto. There are enough annoying, nosy people here already.

If someone knows a guy who can help the op out ,please pm him, imho an open forum is not the place to talk about this kind of stuff.

For the people who continue to post about Ted all I can do is shake my head,I meen really this is just mind boggling, get a clue guys.Every cert he's done for me has been legit....

Here is what I know of Ted Rose:
-Has been in the industry forever
-Straight forward guy, service for cash,no bs tricks
-Has helped out more people than any other shop in the gta
-Has scratched more wheels than anybody in the gta(lol)sorry Ted it's true, but hey scars add character right
;)-I believe him to be a genuinely good guy,and that's a whole lot more than I can say for the majority of shatheads that seem to plague the southern ontario motorcycle industry
-Licensed motorcycle mechanic who deserves a lot more respect than what some give him credit for on this board....

Almost forgot-his harley's gangster:cool:

Your all a bunch of idiots for bashing Ted in my eyes... this thread proves it....

I don't think Ted is the issue. The issue is all the idiots openly discussing how he does at-home safeties.

I have a guy that will safety a bike without even seeing it. I'm not about to give his name on an online forum where anyone can see it. I'm not stupid.

I am glad. If I was still in Toronto I would have personally reported Ted for his practices. He shouldn't be in the business of safetying motorcycles if he is not prepared to do it properly. I keep waiting for the day he gets his *** sued off because he did a back of the parking lot safety when the bike was unsafe.

Wowwww, I said I would rarely post a few months ago but what the **** is wrong with you? I've been going to Ted's, along with my gf, for the last 2 seasons. He has safetied 3 bikes for me by methods which I will not state in case you start ratting. None of the bikes have had any problems. He's also very cheap and a very nice guy.

Again, what the **** is your problem? Does it give you a power trip to piss on other people for breaking some minor rule?

Here's the thing tho...

I will only ever get a 'questionable' safety for a bike I am buying. I can go over it myself and I know what is good and what isn't. If I'm selling a bike I do it all properly.

If someone sells a bike with a BS safety that is misleading... And I know there are people out there that will do it.

The shop would be responsible for any safety repairs once that certificate is signed. True story.

I've 2 safeties @ Canadian Tire out in the parking lot with zero tools.
See here it goes again. People are happy when they get an easy inspection because they didn't have to spend money on fixing stuff that would not make them any safer anyways, but then come in here and make mention of it, then next time you go there instead of having an easy safety inspection, you are going to get the "anal retentive one" because the MTO went hard after the business that gave you the easy one.

*face Palm*

If they gave you an easy inspection then be happy and shut up about it. If you are looking to get a real inspection then tell them that their inspection is not acceptable and go somewhere else

Seriously. Why do people have such a hard time keeping their mouth shut sometimes??

I'm not a safety inspection expert, only 40+ yr. rider and shade tree mechanic. In no way did I feel ripped off on either of these inspections or getting away easy. I could feel overcharged @ $70 + taxes for 20 minutes work but I don't. Both techs clearly knew what they were doing. It wasn't a covert operation by a national chain.

I dont think too many people are crapping on Ted. He broke the rules. He knew what he was doing. He got caught. Pretty simple really. The fact that he is still in business at all tells me the MTO didnt get too rough with him. They are relentless I would rather deal with Rev Canada, Customs, Cops, Honey Badgers, Zombies all at once than the MTO Enforcement dudes.
I think its too bad, but in the end he wasnt doing this as some sort of community service project. He was making $50 a pop for five minutes of writing. Do two or three on the drive home thats a nice little touch.
I dont really care one way or the other the only effect on me is I have nobody to tell people to call for the at home service. There will always be people that care if safeties are done right or by brail and will shop accordingly. Caboose is right , if you have someone that does you a good turn dont crap on him/her. If you dont bittch when they no longer are willing to do you that turn.

That would be to easy No lol... all i can say some idiots on this SITE wrecked a good thing for others on this site by opening their big fat mouths about TED....

I think the problem is if you buy a car and put it in your name as unfit 2 months down the road you can get a temp permit to drive it to the garage to get safetied and etested where with a bike if you register it as unfit you are screawed because you cant get a temp sticker then you have no way of getting it to a garage unless you trailer it and not everyone has someone with a truck and trailer and its a pain in the *** to go rent **** sometimes for 10 mins, if the mto would allow people on motorcycle to get a temp permit even if its only for 12 hours it would make everything alot easier

Funny thing though; it isn't a "minor" rule. It's meant to ensure that the job is done correctly.

When you effectively advertise an illegal service, by posting names all over the internet, is it any surprise when enforcement catches wind of it? I don't see a lot of people posting where they can buy "royalty free" DVDs, handguns, or get a sketchy driving test done, so why is it such a surprise when it's a mandatory safety inspection?

why can't you get a temp sticker for a Bike???

Obviously you can.

"questionable safety"? What is that? Never heard of it.

You can do that with a bike...just register it when you're ready to safety. I think you can even get 2 temps in a row.
