Get out there and vote!

It's that day again...I'm still not 100% sure of who I'm voting for...but I'll have a decision to make in short order.

My opinion:

Liberals - Liars
PC - Idiots
NDP - Dreamers

I know it's not 100% applicable, but I guess that's the mentality I've had and been ingrained with over the years.

I’ll be voting this afternoon. PC as always.
I was always a 100% PC supporter (with my error once for Liberals).

This time I'm not sure...and I don't see the Libs or NDP as real alternatives that could get anything done. I'm no fan of DF...but this is the most unsure I've been in my life of voting.

While disappointing that there are no good options, your process is good. Locking yourself into an ideological "I am a liberal/con/ndp" just causes problems. Start with your historically preferred party and see where they are on things you care about and/or if they have gone full looney tunes on issues. Then look at the other parties to see if maybe things have shifted around enough that you are now closer to another party. I don't think most voters move much politically but damn have the parties ever shifted recently.

The PCs platform typically supports what’s important to me.

I suppose you have to draw a line somewhere, to me Doug isn’t that line. I wouldn’t buy him a beer but I trust him not to run the province into the gutter. Supporting the platform that aligns with what I want from a government is icing on the cake.

You made a concise breakdown earlier.

The other parties are too far left for me to swallow, I would identify as centre and Doug has certainly brought the party more left than normal.

I voted in advance polls. Typical government ridiculousness with four employees manning the station and about one person at a time voting but it went quickly.
I did as well.

You write in the candidates name instead of a check mark, no real identification on the card to determine if it was my vote or someone elses- seemed very backward.

First time voting provincially for me, so maybe that's the norm.

My station had printed ballots and you marked in a circle. It got sucked into what I hope was a scanner and not just an obscenely expensive lockbox where a slot in a safe would be just as secure and an order of magnitude less money.

The ballots included candidates names and their parties. That was an improvement. In some past elections, there were only names and there is a decent chance that many people know the party they want to vote for but have no idea what the local candidates name is.

Did your riding have a shakeup recently (candidate dropped out or changed parties)?

Whitby.

Lorne Coe Incumbent, he's been around for ages, only shows up for photo op's lol.

Mine went into a square cardboard box, looked like it had been made by the nearest Kindergarten school as a project.

Very perturbed by the whole process TBH, but I presume that all the parties would have given the green light to the way this station does voting.

If Darth Vader wins in my riding, I will know the system is flawed.

I would consider him but the stupid dumpster fire of cash he wants to spend on new highways is a solid no.

Bingo. It’s about what’s important to you first, then whose leading the charge.

EDIT; although, one must ask themselves, the current infrastructure can’t support the influx of people. (Sans housing prices, perhaps dissuading people from coming into the area.) if you agree, when would you green light spending dumpsters of money to address that issue? Not going to argue on how to spend it, but when.

I hate Doug Ford. He's absolutely awful.
That's a reasonable position. The obvious follow up question is which of the other options that could theoretically form a government is better? Schreiner might be but he would be lucky to get personally elected, it is impossible for him to get enough candidates elected to be premier. Team corruption still hasn't purged yet so they are the worst choice. That leaves you with team hopes and dreams and unicorns farting rainbows. Yuck.

That highway project is bad from so many angles.

And its sets precedent for destruction and literally paves the way for more traffic on existing highways without planning for alternative transport options along that corridor.

Was pretty quiet at the polling station.

With the housing built-form that we like in Ontario, alternative transport options are impossible. Public transport (or even walking/cycling as a viable option) only works for housing that is medium density or higher. Single family homes just spread people out too much to make anything other than personal vehicle viable. Something like uber or autonomous uber could replace personally owned vehicles but you are still mainly moving one person per automobile.
