Get a fireblade now or wait for 2012?

I have yet to see a review of the 848 where it beats the 600's in street and track riding......it does after all have a slow streering 1198 chassis with worse suspension, no surprise it doesn't handle as well as 600's.

Umm.. ever ride one? Try it before you bash it if you haven't. Rode an 848 hard into corners, traffic circles and the likes - it outhandled the R6 and GSXR750 very easily (IMHO, from personal ride experience). Maybe the suspension was set up better for my weight than the other 2, but it was not hard outcornering the other 2 bikes when we were switching rides...

Depends on the corner and more importantly the rider.

What murf is talking about is probably the longer wheelbase and overall less aggressive geometry making for a "lazy" feel of the 848/1198. They turn in slower and are thus 'heavier' to toss around at lower speeds and sharper corners. In return you get a more compliant and stable ride for the longer sweepers, etc etc.

With that being said, if you're dropping upwards of 20k (or more) on an 1198 and don't like the lazy feel, you're only a few suspension adjustments (lower the front, raise the rear, etc) and a $700 30mm triple clamp away from having a beast of a quick-turning bike.

How do you "beat a 600" in street riding? Do they measure laptimes from Timmies to Timmies or something?

An 848 is unquestionably and undeniably a way better street bike than a 600. Given that you're already an experienced rider, of course.

same way the 1098 finished behind a 600 for bike of the year honours (uncomfortable, slow turn in, hot backside etc), but here is an EVO article:

the track portion for reference:

I don't think u can adjust the ride height on the rear of the 848? Who was the person on this forum that spent a ton of money on their 1098 to make it handle better, and in the end just got a 600 after riding one ? Maybe he can shed some light on it?

You can always lower the front by a few mm and it makes a pretty significant difference. And like I said, 30mm triples for around $700 when you already dropped 15-20k on a bike isn't much. Assuming you're the kind of rider who wants to sacrifice stability for quicker turn-in. Me personally, I'd just get used to it ;)

Im in the same boat as you bro. I have $6000. in my CBR fund waiting until fall/winter then I will go put it down on a 2010/2011 1000RRA.

coming from 08 R6 and having ridden almost all ss bikes id say that 848 evo is the best handling bike out of the bunch, it is much better handling bike then my r6, it has much better breaks (Best breaks of any bike Ive ridden), the frame is amazing, bike is stable, and the bike "fit me as a glove". So far Im leaning towards the EVO, will take the gf into the dealer to demo the bike for second time and hoping she will change her mind.

The 848 evo is much closer to the fireblade then you might think. It has amazing brakes (Best Ive seen on any bike) amazing frame, and therefore handling, great low/mid range, and it is a Ducati! The 1198 is out of question for 2 reasons, it has TOO much grunt and WILL bring the front up in the first 3 gears. I do 2 up quite a lot with my gf and not only does she hate ducs seating position (Both 848 and 1198) the 1198 has too much grunt for SAFE 2 up riding.

Now the blade fits the bill perfectly for both of us, but is up for an update. If my patience will run out, I will take my girl to GPBIKES and gave the duc another shot hopefully she will change her mind.

Uhh my zx10 is the same. Can't open it past 25% throttle from 1-3, a new 1000 Honda will be no different. This is where throttle controll comes into play.

Im considering taking it for a spin while demoing the 848 evo, but still dont think it will be a sound option for 2 up... The evo is the perfect bike for me with right ammount of power, i like the power delivery more then most littre bikes the only bike that comes close would be the blade

Man I dunno - all these litre bikes are so powerful.... personally I wouldn't care about a style change. Anyhoo.... that's just me.... even at the track I chicken out about unleashing the power of my stock engined 600 that is like 8 years old now!!! I don't see how any of them lack power.

Totally your call, but the most comfy supersport I have sat on recently are the Gixxers..... and the best sporty bike for a pillion is probably a ZX-14 or Busa.
