Get a fireblade now or wait for 2012?

And that's different from other liter bikes how?

The 1198 is way more usable around town than the other bikes and that's because of the insane low-end and midrange that the motor produces. Contrary to an inline 4, you don't have to wind the Ducati up as it has a ton of grunt right down low where you want it. "Use all its gears" please

Now Im gonna expand my original guess and say that you've never actually ridden a liter bike of any kind, let alone a Ducati.

my point was that u are spending all this $ on a bike but nowhere in the GTA that's gonna allow you (legally) to use all it's gears. kind of a waste.

The same is true of any bike bigger than 125cc ... the only question is, to what degree it is a waste.

it "only" costs more to insure with SF? is there anoher ins. company that would insure a 1198 with a better rate than SF?

I'm not an insurer, if you wanna know the rates start calling around and find out for yourself.

State Farm is different from a lot of other insurers because their rates are almost solely based on the displacement of the engine. A 100hp 1800cc Harley would cost more to insure than a 180hp ZX10R, and so on.

its all opinion, yes i never rode a litre bike. is it some kind of contest? does a person join a magical high status club when he/she rides a litre bike? different people have different interests. sounds like i hit a nerve lol

It's not a contest at all. I'm calling you out on dispensing advice about bikes which you've never ridden or had any kind of experience with beyond watching them on youtube. And no I don't ride an 1198 or a Ducati at all, but have ridden more than my fair share of them.

i didnt really give advice, i just repeated what was said in a review. i guess the reviewer was wrong and you are correct.

Sure you did, you put in a quip about it being a poser bike because it's unusable in the city. Is that also what the reviewer said? Anyways, we can stop this dumb argument now... the 1198 is an awesome machine and a much better street/city bike than other liter bikes, provided the rider is comfortable on it. The way the power is delivered from down low all the way up to redline means that the moment you let the clutch out, you're sitting on a rocket that doesn't need to wind up to get going.

And going back to the fireblade, it sits nicely in spot #2 in my books because of the killer midrange when up against the other 4cyl superbikes. People get dazzled by ZX10s and S1000RRs having insane top end power, but for a street bike that will spend about 1% of the time near redline and 99% of the time in the midrange... peak HP means nothing.

About time honda made a V4. The RC51 was an amazing bike, but they did a good job with the midrange on the CBR. The RC51 is was too heavy and a dated, but l still respect the bike. If they build one im completely sold when l get the chance upgrade to a full litre.

I have my doubts that Honda will go for the V4 arrangement in something that is meant to be a mass market (if they don't screw up the manufacturing and price it wrong ...) sport bike. Too expensive to manufacture. But, given the DN-01 and the dual-clutch transmission on the VFR, anything could happen ... They may opt to give up on attempting to get high-volume sales and just aim at a niche market, and that means ... expensive!

Ducati are expensive as hell, but l would still buy a couple throughout my riding career. Technically the Aprilla RSV4 is top of my list, and it going to kill my wallet but im not detered at all. Just means i'll have to buy a cheaper used car for my off days. i would never buy a new bike unless it's exactly what im looking for.

In the mean time they'll have to settle for used sales...
SUCKERS!!!! :D

The 2012 CBR will be announced in November of this year. But I guess it's that time of year to start the "next years bike" talk so....

It is very likely that they will have a V4 since they are developing a new liter engine for MotoGP and it's rule changes. Most of this comes from the idea that BMW and Aprillia will join the MotoGP grid next year etc. So, it's safe to say if it was coming it would come from this development.

What does seem to be the most popular of rumors...

Traction control and new advanced electronics
2ND Generation ABS System
Smaller exhaust
Revised side fairing
New headlight design
Rings on the pistons to keep oil out of the combustion chamber <--- that one is a joke... kinda

Whatever they have in store it's a tight kept secret and everything claimed so far is suspect at best.

The CBR really does provide the best street ride... it has significantly more midrange than the other 4 cylinder 1000s, BMW included.

Regarding the 848- IMO if you're buying a twin, and a Ducati at that, you're selling yourself short by not getting a leftover 1098 or a new 1198. The 848 is cool for sure but it doesn't have the kind of grunt I'd want a twin supersport to have, nor does it have near the kind of grunt a fireblade has.

Best choice: get an 1198 from the states

The 848 evo is much closer to the fireblade then you might think. It has amazing brakes (Best Ive seen on any bike) amazing frame, and therefore handling, great low/mid range, and it is a Ducati! The 1198 is out of question for 2 reasons, it has TOO much grunt and WILL bring the front up in the first 3 gears. I do 2 up quite a lot with my gf and not only does she hate ducs seating position (Both 848 and 1198) the 1198 has too much grunt for SAFE 2 up riding.

Now the blade fits the bill perfectly for both of us, but is up for an update. If my patience will run out, I will take my girl to GPBIKES and gave the duc another shot hopefully she will change her mind.

2up on the 848? that certainly can't be comfortable...? how often do u 2up? for best comfort the monster 1100 evo might be a better choice. also its got ABS and traction control. just a tiny bit less torque than the 1000rr

Id say 80% of my rides are 2up, the 08 R6 that I sold was comfortable both for me and my gf for 2up, so is the blade. The issue with the 848 is that the riders seat is low while passengers is high, so she sits much higher then on any other ss that we ridden.

PS: SS bike is the only class of bike Im interested in buying.

I guess a KTM RC8R is out of the question too for the same reasons as the 1198.... but the KTM has a fully adjustable seat, subframe, footpegs, and handlebars; it'd probably be the most comfortable for 2up out of the supersports. Somethin to consider, I guess.

If 80% of my rides were 2up, a supersport would be the last bike I'd choose. You should buy a VFR or something.

1198 lugs in 6th below 100mph, prob not the best choice for GTA riding, unless it's just for posing. plus costs more to insure.

the Evo has the same transmission gear ratios as the 1198 so if it has 40% less torque wouldn't it lug alot more? I have yet to see a review of the 848 where it beats the 600's in street and track riding......it does after all have a slow streering 1198 chassis with worse suspension, no surprise it doesn't handle as well as 600's.

Those gear ratios are also much more similar to a 600's......so it's geared much lower than other litre bikes, and has big gaps between the gears since it's a much wider ratio transmission.

How do you "beat a 600" in street riding? Do they measure laptimes from Timmies to Timmies or something?

An 848 is unquestionably and undeniably a way better street bike than a 600. Given that you're already an experienced rider, of course.
