Gas prices.

We pay .55 and its on you to drive a moped or a V10 jag .
We used to be image conscience and make you drive a "fresher" looking vehicle , now nobody cares what you drive. At .55 it will cover your fuel/ deprec/ins ect at this point, but your wont turn a profit by driving unneccesary Kms and billing it.
.55 would pay the freight on a small car at $2/l.

I remember when I was a travelling salesman in the water and ww industry we were given a cheque monthly for $600 or $700 and a gas card.

Didn’t matter how many kms you did, that was the cheque. I’m sure the older guys had better allowances than me, but it covered. Especially when boss wanted me to do more PM work than sales and kept me on that plan.

I paid my car off with that money.

When I worked for HFH I used the company truck. If it was busy "no I'm not humping tools around in my car" and they would rent me a new big shiny Dodge pick up. Loved introducing those paddle shifter trannys to the rev limiter.

I tell folks that are irreplaceable, let’s all stand around bucket of water , we will all put our hands in, you joe , pull your hand out first and show me the hole in the water.

FWIW, I don't know of a business that pays that other than to the owner.

You don’t even pay that to the owner , you lease him a fat 6 series BMW or E class Benz , or a loaded F150 . He doesn’t get pestered with mileage logs and it gets changed out every 36 months max . And he doesn’t care it’s a taxable benefit , it already been calculated in his package .
Usually the wife gets one also …..

Don't forget the kids...they also usually get a nice car / condo / investment property along with it.

Buddy owns a business...the whole family gets new cars every 2-3 years....kids have condos in Canada/USA/Caribbean and Poland...and he does some business in each country, so it's all nice and legit.

The market is taking some big shocks. I don't see it dropping below $1 but once things catch up the $1.40 ish range will be back. That is my prediction.

Right now it is going up as production was scaled back (aftermath of the Russian-Saudi price war) and COVID lower demand, the increase in production was slow to come. Then the Ukraine war. More upward shocks. Russia will not be back in the main pool for a long time but others will start to cash in with production increases or just playing nicer to get back in the pool.
Yeah I think that is kinda how it will play out. Might depend on how long this whole Russian + Ukraine thing lasts, and well there is that stupid carbon tax increase coming...

BTW wasn't there a gas thread already? Can't seem to find it anymore 🤷‍♂️

So I decide to go to Mennonite country to buy some yeast for my bread making. I figure I'l save $15.00 but spend $30.00 in gas. Along the way we stop at a service centre. A small Starbucks was just under $3.00 = $12.00 / Liter. Gas was about $3.00 but a pair of half liter bottles of water were on sale at $6.00, three times the cost of gas and the water drops out of the sky.

What is common sense?

Faak. I'm gonna have to sell a few 2x4s from my stash to pay for gas!

Just heard on 680 news that price is going up a few cents tonight, and then down 15c/L on Friday morning.

Apparently oil took a dive today.

I gassed in Hamilton yesterday for 08. L less than Oakville . It’s a hard to predict industry

That's standard daily pricing on 6N between Breezy and Clappison's Corners

There is some movement on the OPEC side regarding production but the Saudis are still a little mad at the US as the US (under Trump) sided with the Russians in the 2020 price war (threatened to pull troops out Saudi Arabia and to place tariffs/sanctions on the Saudis if they did not cut back production).

There is also movement in both Iran on the nuclear deal and in Venezuela to lift some sanctions, including the release of some US people held there. Some see this as trading one devil (Russia) for others but it offers an opportunity to make some diplomatic movement for these two and at the end of the day the world still revolves around less worse becomes sort of good--constantly moving scale.
