Ford F150 Chinese Knock Off

your joking about the hyundai right, they were junk, if anyone remembers the pony plus or the steller than you'd know how much of a POS they were. 2 quarts of oil to a tank of gas, parts hanging off the thing because the rust was so rampant

This compared to the high quality American cars of the 80s?

The Hyundai Pony and follow-on Excel were on the low end of the quality scale, literally junk, even compared to the American cars of that time.

The pony was a piece of junk, "points" ignition 10 yrs after everybody else had dropped it. But Hyundai is an industrial giant and the plan was to establish a toehold in the north American market and build a dealer network and sell at a price point. They sold thousands of those cars and built an empire. Looked at a Genesis lately?
Kia followed the business model Hyundai laid out , Optima anybody? AJAC best family car under 30k.

For those that have been driving (or fixing cars) long enough Datsun and Toyota sent rusting crap here also in the beginning.

Ignore them long enough and they will eat your lunch. North American manufacturers are only better because the imports made them up there game.

I hope the Chinese don't copy our spelling and grammar.

Their spelling and grammar is 4,000 yrs old.

If you read a Chinese service manual translated to the Queens English you'll notice they have no interest in coping our spelling and grammar.

Of course they are garbage, they are a new company, and they are selling cheap.

You're talking about JAC motors in China right?

Their Automotive division was established in 1964. They currently produce 700 000 units a year shipped globally and are ranked in the top 10 industrial equipment producers in China.

So no, not a new company like Hyundai was with their Pony.

Face it y'all..... people buy wall-mart now more than they ever did and by wall-mart I mean lowest end garbage...

Stuff like this will show up here soon enough and you'll all buy it.

Anyway, it's hardly a big deal when an auto manufacturer copies another one.

Do you seriously think everyone thought up airbags, ABS, paddle shift, backing sensors, power seats, auto dimming mirrors etc etc etc etc all at exactly the same time??

FFS every new car looks like whatever was popular the year before. Can you tell the difference between an Impreza hatch and a Mazda 3 before you see the badge?
You don't get "original design" until you're upwards of $60K

And for what it's worth, the Pony was the shittiest of the ****** but it was right there with the original Honda Civic and the AMC Pacer. The only difference is the Imports got better and the Domestics are still absolute ****ing garbage.

I just smacked my forehead, nod my head and burst out laughing. Thanks for making me look like an idiot in the office

:lmao:

Ahhhh China. I have many fond and many many not-so-fond memories after working over there for a couple of years.

What many people don't see:

They are a nation which literally pumps out two types of products; products for export (for our consumption which are not available or within reach of the local Chinese laborer) and products for the Chinese market (complete junk...these products also travel to other quasi third world nations such as Cambodia/Brazil etc.). These crappy local products are not allowed in our country (as of yet) and realistically there is no market for junk in North America.

This Ford truck is an example of the junk they manufacture. These types of vehicles will never make it to the North American market because we won't allow it. There are several examples of Chinese manufacturers being sent home from first world nation auto shows because their product mimics protected designs (ex. the fake smart car at the Frankfurt show a couple of years ago). The Chinese really have no shame and are all about making a quick buck off the ideas of others. The Chinese government is in denial and are looking out for their own people.

They will never follow in the footsteps of the Koreans.

What they fail to realize is that the Chinese are losing their culture due to piracy and the lack of enforcing global copyright infringement laws. Capitalism creates new ideas, inventions, film, music etc. Most, if not all of the inventions and art that China is ripping off is/was created by the Western world. They are simply a nation that we use to manufacture these items and in-turn we somewhat allow them to steal our ideas. Sad to see but that's the way it will be if we continue to shop at Wal-mart. Hopefully we will turn to other more rational nations in the near future to manufacture products for our consumption. This is already happening but on a small scale.

What we should be afraid about is the Chinese being allowed, legally, to use our intellectual properties. I'm pretty sure it happened with MIG in the '80s and there is mention that GM/Ford etc. are being pressure to manufacture small, more efficient cars in China while releasing the IP to the Chinese. This would be a disaster.

Anyhow just my $.02

sorry, I have only bought domestic vehicles built in North America, and don't shop at wallmart.

Not sure why you are in denial about the domestic cars improving.......they have always ranked higher than the Koreans in all the surveys btw.

Inventions such as ABS, dimming mirrors were not invented at the same time......that's why they are patented so no one else can use that idea for a couple years.......I don't recall any idea coming from china?

On the other hand the Chinese were able to build a 4 banger diesel engine to put in their cars. NA still can't make a diesel compact car. Pathetic.

NA manufacturers most certainly can.

The problem is that NA-mericans won't buy them in sufficient numbers to make it economically-practical for NA automakers to market them here.

Very true. As much as we complain, gasoline is unbelievably inexpensive in North America. There is no reason to assemble a diesel market.

Also, with modern technology, we have been able to squeeze more and more out of smaller and smaller engines, that sip less and less fuel, to the point where diesels are becoming irrelevant from a pure fuel economy perspective. They may regain their relevance on the passenger car market if we adopt biofuels - both biodiesel and algal diesel.
