First crash for me as well :( Watch the speed bumps at the forks of the credit guys!

I was riding up there early last week maybe the 3rd time riding on that road and I decided to just cruise. Heading in the direction to Hwy 10 I think it was the last left corner and then you go uphill I see orange cones in the apex of the corner and in the corner there is a tow truck pulling a civic out of a ditch. Lucky I was riding really slow. Be careful of traffic on that road seems to be busier that we may think.
 
You should see what these speed bumps are doing to lowered tuner cars racing the Forks!

I don't think the OP is at fault at all. I know someone who sued the Township of Caledon and won for a pot-hole destroying his suspension. There isn't enough warning of these new speed bumps. Hence the truck hauling on his brakes. That would be the OP's case. Take pics of the "new" sign. And the black speed bumps. And the documented accidents. There should be flashing ambers when a dramatic change to a road is made such as speed bumps on a country road straight. The OP would easily win this case if he sued as there's been multiple accidents.

I was riding there last night and I can tell you that you can not see them (black, unmarked bumps). I know it happened at a day time, but don't tell me "following to close" if somebone locks up (suddenly!) breaks of his vehicle in front of you, on the straight road!

This is something that 99 % of riders and drivers out there dont understand. You have to give yourself enough space so that if a car in front of you slams on their brakes you can stop safely, and if you cant then you were obviously following too close. Yet most people follow at 2 meters on the 401 at 120 km/h and then ***** when something happens...

But drafting makes you kewl! Did i mention the money you save from using less gas?

Forget whether or not the vehicle in front slams on the brakes. What if the vehicle you're following hits a stationary object like a truck? That will bring them to a stop faster than you can blink. I had that happen to me on the 400, and only by instantly changing lanes I was able to avoid becoming just a link in that chain. My brakes would have just carried me straight under the bumper.

dont they have warning signs??? And i think one should be extra cautious if you are following a truck or something that prevents you from looking far ahead. But glad u r ok.

I wish I would have taken a picture when I was there yesterday. Bright brand new signs warning of upcoming bump, then right at the bump. If someone needs more signs than what are there, they need to give up their license.

He was following too closely and the vehicle infront of him hit the stationary truck which he couldn't see because the car infront was blocking his view which was again caused by him following too close.

I read my post again, and I should have been more clear. In my case it was just a regular 3 or 4 car pile-up, and while I can't remember the cars involved I am sure there weren't any trucks larger than a pickup or SUV. I was following at a normal distance, about 2 seconds back when the car in front came to a dead stop.

All I was trying to point out is that a safe distance when people are braking hard is nowhere near enough to be a safe distance when people ahead are getting into an accident.

As I said, I should have phrased my post more clearly. Was I following too close? Absolutely. No need to become sarcastic about it...
 
I don't see why the speed bump even comes into play...the truck driver could have stopped because his phone fell out of his hand or a squirrel ran across the road to the same avail. At first I thought the bump was around a turn but it was just straight downhill. Going up a hill, down a hill, making a turn, those are all times where we want to increase that gap between us and another vehicle.

Glad to hear you're ok though OP. I've had to emergency brake hard on a cold morning and I had some wobble but I just look straight, keep the bike straight, don't do anything crazy with the brakes/gas/bars and ride it through. I always use my back brake whenever I am slowing down. To me it's either you swerve or you brake in a straight line so pick one and commit.
