Finally tried dirtbiking!

quite. the powerband is tiny, and if you drop too low, you stall.

The powerband is like a barely controlled explosion. Four stroke dirtbiking is kinda lame. An older RM 250 is selling for more than an almost brand new RM-Z 450 on Kijiji! An RM 250 will spank an RM-Z 450 The four strokes just don't deliver the same thrill. The two stroke constantly wants to pull your arms out of their sockets...and that's a hell of a buzz to try and control. Suzuki had better get back to making two strokes!

I'm pretty sure Trail Tours runs till the end of October too.

As for 2 strokes... man, now I'm really wanting to try out the difference for myself....

You must be joking ...ever ridden a Honda CF450r? There is a good reason Honda wiped the floor with Yamaha when they were introduced against the YZ250s in 2001.....
ANd they keep getting better....not for the faint of heart.

••

Chatsworth is still open until later in October AFAIK.

Yea, you know what you're talking about. :lmao:

Four-stroke dirt-biking sucks. It's lame as F. Here's an RM 250 spanking a KX 450 F:

Every guy I meet on my RM says the same thing. "I just want to go back to two-stroke."

Back in the day Honda and Suzuki were in a horsepower war. Honda went insane and released the CR 500. It is the definition of insanity. Let the clutch out in any gear and the bike wants to loop you. Keep in mind that a two stroke puts out twice as much power as a four stroke using half the cc's. So the CR 500's four stroke competition would be a 1000 cc dirtbike!

They are great for cleaning the weeds off your lawn too :)

Riding a GSX-R 1000 isn't scary. Riding a 500 cc two stroke will stop your heart! But what do I know?

I regularly beat 450s and 250 smokers on my 250F... But it must be gay to have controllable, tractable power in a modern frame. Put it on a slick hard packed track and that 2 stroke is less attractive.

Better get some time under your belt before making broad statements.
If 2 strokes are so uncotrollable then why are they the more popular choice for woods racers? Of course there are now lots of 4 strokes doing well there now.
You can change the set up of a 2 stroke motor, and a good builder will know how to put one together.

They are now racing the 250 2 strokes in the 250f class. If they really were king of even the 450s they wouldn't have changed the rules to make it so.

But hey, I've only ridden 125s, 250s, 250F, 450F, 144s etc.
yes, the two strokes are fun, but I like my 250F.

The video I provided of a 450F vs RM 250 IS ON PAVEMENT with two very experienced riders. I've been racing Motocross / Enduro since I was 13. I'm now 41. Any 250F can be taken out by any 125 two stroke. Four stroke motocross are for pussies. The added talent required to ride a two stroke is a bike that you have to ride that constantly and consistently wants to ride you!

Pass the dutchy!

The ktm 350 sxf puts out the same power as my 04 rm250 if not more.

2 strokes are awesome fun, but not the pansy 125 where you are forced to keep it on the boil, 250's were a bit more forgiving. 2 strokes of the 250 class had about the same power as the 450 4 strokes but due to not having a super hard hit like a 2 stroke they feel slower, but aren't. That constant power will have you pulling through mud or up a hill from the basement whereas a 2 stroke would stall out if the revs drop at all.

I've had 2 RM250's, 2 KX250's, 1 KX125, and 1 RM125 (as well as an 77 Kawasaki 100 that I started on in 1979). All 2 strokes, all great. One thing I wouldn't have liked to try on the 4 stroke would be a 60 ft double jump witha 10 foot run up. The 2 stroke with full power instantly was a joy to do this with.

I would take a 250 2 stroke for a couple of reasons. FUN!!!!!!! Savage hitting powerband. And easy to maintain.

But trail riding instead of supercross? The 4 stroke all day long.

If you compare the old SX tracks to the new ones the distance from the corner to the jump has gotten quite a bit shorter, because of the 4 stroke. The new 450's make more power sooner and it's easier to put down than a 2s. Pretty sure ktm's 350 is putting down as much or more (low-mid 50's) power than a 250 2s. Untill they put more money and technology into the 2s it isn't going to be competitive with the 4s. I hate to burst your bubble but a 250 2s runs the same lap times as a 250 4s now.

Ummm. Not quite. I lug mine all the time. Not having a boatload of torque right off the bottom really helps when trying to get up a slick rock face without breaking the rear free.

2 strokes are running strong in woods racing. Go to an enduro and check out what bikes are there. Probably 50 percent or more are 2T. Hell, Wojo just won the Cord on one.

Must be an awesome 2 stroke. My Bill Burr tuned machines couldn't come close to a 4 stroke in the low rev department for a slippery surface, they would either try to rip the knobbies off the tires or lug with no power or stall. Woods racing and the average Joe trying to go up a steep and slippery incline with exposed roots the 4 stroke rules. Torque is just enough to keep forward momentum at low revs. The 2 stroke racers aren't going to do that for a guy who wants to go dirtbiking, and not racing.

Remember we are talking about people who have just discovered dirt biking here.

250 four strokes are joke. There is a reason they use four stroke dirtbikes to teach people how to ride motorcycles.

The only "problem" with a two stroke is getting that amazing torque to the dirt with the rear tire not gripping. If you filmed the two stroke vs the four on a high speed camera you would see the two stroke never actually making solid contact with the dirt. This is what makes them so much fun tho. It's like trying to ride a chainsaw.

Honda and suzuki in a hp war? The cr500 was built to compete in open class mx. Suzuki didnt even produce an open class bike when the ama killed the 500 class.

4 strokes suck? The crf 400r only makes 5 hp less than the 500.
