The goal of the store would not be to attract the buying segment that likes to spend $2500 on a bike and then use discount services and parts. From the description above I thought it was clear that it would be an "exotic" bike store, meaning most of those motorcycles cater to a more affluent crowd, with more disposable income. The customers that purchase Ducati's or Norton's also for the most part like to deck themselves out in the same brand gear. The store would also carry other apparel and safety gear, etc.. The point being made is that accessories and apparel is commonly marketed incorrectly and undervalued when it comes to sales profit. As for being a "hub" for bike meets, that's the idea behind making it a cooler place that can act as a meeting place for riders providing services and a place to rest. This does't mean that the store wouldn't be selling some used Japanese bikes, however it would have a clearly established relationship as being a higher end exotic bike store. This would in fact be a niche store, I'm sorry I didn't make that more apparent in the description.

The trouble with high end stuff is that it takes high end people with high end money to buy it. Rich people aren't fools or they wouldn't be rich. They shop for prices too, know the internet and what's in and what it's worth.

Brand identification goes with the brand not the store that sold it. When it's rolling down the road a $30K motorcycle impresses you or not because of the bike not the store where you bought it. If the buyer can get it cheaper elsewhere it doesn't detract from his or her kharma / cool factor.

I don't know if there are enough celebs in TO to open a Rodeo Drive appointment only store at mile high prices.

If you were the real Rossi and dropped by every once in a while, sipped capucinos with the guys the place might develop an atmosphere but your biggest seller would likely be the coffees.

If I had many million and the desire to try this I would open a coffee shop that sold motorcycles. The coffee pricess would make Sbucks look like Walwart but the babes serving then would be right out a a Bond flick. Inner circle members get free indoor parking for their bikes. You pay an extra $10G for the bike but you get 24/7 free parking downtown anytime.

The bottom line is that I would go belly up as well but it would be a hoot while it lasted.

Ok, so how many "exotic" bikes are sold within 100 km radius of you.
How many of them will buy goods from you vs. the ease and knowledge of the shop they bought their bikes from?

I am not trying to kill your dream however it seems you are missing lots of info.
We just do not have the market here to support some of these great ideas. We may have the numbers but not the mentality or enough of the ppl that love this sport/hobby.

You realize the new Nortons never made it into production? They have yet to sell a single bike to a private owner and probably never will. Out of curiosity, what bike do you own?

Why not make the name simple.... Motocicletta (motorcycle in italian)

I've generally been in favour of a retail operation having it's location embedded.

ie Downtown Motorcycles immediately says where you are for the GTA riders. I'd not get too cute and while I like Motorsports I think it's too confusing with a car outlet.

You could go Downtown GTA Motorcycles as well

The last one I think would result in interesting logo.

••

all that said - there is a reason there are none downtown and I'd tend to hit the brownlands.

I like it!!! :D

Sounds like a feminine name hence why the girl likes it.
That name idea is not inclusive. What is the cultural diversity of riders in the GTA?

call it Dukes-for Bikers/Riders
I want $500 if you use my name

Isn't there a Duke's Cycle already? (Sells push bikes)

I dont want to appear mean, but if your considering McQueen Motorsports and Rossi ect. as names I'm guessing you've figured out those names with any connection to a motorsport venture would need to be licensed? They are already a brand.
OP your comment on branded accessories being not marketed correctly is interesting, its a better margin SKU usually selling branded items vs. generic items, however the kiss of death for a specialty business is inventory. Those are not piles of jackets, they are piles of money.
The dude that wants a new Norton picks Black or White bike, the jacket/helmet could be from 20 manufacturers.

Its a fun dream, wish you well. Look at all the uber high end car dealers and where they were located and where they are now. Downtown may not be the best choice.

Esotico Motori

It's definitely all in the name.... there's a vietnamese Pho restaurant i think in Cambridge called Pho Shizzle... I thought that was so clever.

That being said I have no ideas to share for bike store names atm. lol!

Service, pricing, location is going to be your #1 concern.(Of course you know this) Then you also have to take into consideration that some snotty know-it-all comes into your store and you don`t kiss his/her backside he/she will slate you on this site. Unfortunately, then things become personal. there is no way to defend your self. Once the mud is thrown it sticks.
Not sure that the correct name is that important. Can you smile and be none judgemental of idiots that come into your store?
Good Luck.

As long as those "snobby" people help pay the bills, Why complain?

And once again the "motorsports" pat of the name was just to put the business in context. It could very well be motorcycles, scooters, motorsports. That part is irrelevant.
