Not to derail the thread since we all know Mars bars are the best in that list, but I'd like to say a big FU to all the people driving their cars house to house while their kids trick or treat. Making it dangerous for the hundreds of other kids trick or treating and causing a ton of traffic jams on small side streets everywhere.
We didn't see many cars last night (and none following kids around). We did see one motorcycle and I think they really missed out. If you are going to ride around after dark on Halloween, you need a glowing skull mask.

To derail even further, don't worry our effective leaders will have a solution to that once they kill of cars once and for all, with the war on cars raging, everyone will be forced to ride bicycles.

I'm old enough that when I tricked and treated as a lad we'd get home made cookies, home made caramel apples... one time my neighbour gave me a rubbermaid container of her frozen home made spaghetti sauce (it was the BEST. I used to shovel her driveway for spaghetti sauce, I had another neighbour I used to do stuff for and got paid in perogies)
I don't know if all that would fly in today's world....
I'm old enough to remember when this was a staple item at Haloween.

That trend started happening in our area a few years back, me and a few neighbors plunk a picnic table across the street from 7-9. We stay till 9 enjoying some Halloween refreshments, and to move the table for local residents.

A few drivers park and walk the street with their kids, most just drive to the next street.

Buddy told me some dude was cruising in his neighbourhood with a white van and was offering cash to kids…

I wouldn’t believe it until he said that he pulled up to my friend and asked if it’s ok to give money to his girls…in front of my buddy and his wife.

Maybe it's a markham thing. A few of the streets we went down had easy over 100 kids walking up and down both sides of the road, then you had these clowns starting and stopping erratically on both sides of the road. The normal traffic couldn't get past and started road raging putting the kids in even more danger.

When there is a single reported incident, I automatically assume the person that reported it is involved. Especially in a case like this where the needle is left exposed. They wanted attention and got it.
Or a campaign by mega food to prevent the giving of healthy apples, home made treats, popcorn, etc. Not that many people know how to bake anything anymore.

We don't get many treaters so at best there would be a dozen parents on duty. I thought it would be nice to have the kids take a treat for mom or dad. An airliner bottle of whiskey or at least a booze laced chocolate.

Some places had "treats" available for adults. Most often hot chocolate and baileys.

After having about 8 kids LY and 11 TY, I'm not bothering for next year.

Someone I worked with years ago had a home invasion happen and my elderly parents had someone visually scoping out the inside of the house while they were doling out so they gave it up after that.

I honestly can see this tradition dying out in years to come.
Most people did the open front door (or even worse, wide open garage door). A few did a table on their driveway/porch. I like that idea better.

We put out bowls as we are normally with the kids. A few hundred things were taken but was that one greedy kid or 100 kids? I didn't bother checking the cameras to find out. My wife loves Halloween. Even once the kids are done with it, she will probably keep handing stuff out (at a table on porch but she doesn't know that part yet).

Probably just over 50% of houses had lights on and candy for kids. Religious Italian neighbours had mandatory zoom church Halloween evening (presumably to ward off the demons?).

Unfortunately there's too much candy left...and I'll have to take one for the team and eat it.
You and me both ... I used to have mid-70's as I'd keep count to know how much to buy next year (I obviously didn't check before buying TY). I can think of worse things to eat than a hundred+ mini-chocolates.
