F1 Thread!!!

I see green.

When you watch it you see double yellow flags waved at the beginning and at the end a Green Flag. Pure speculation but could the wrong flag have been grabbed?

Did it make sense for Jules to lose control in a waving yellow zone in the rain?

Most racers will lift-off only if they really have to (like if they are about to pass a car which they know they cannot do) .... I mean if he made it through the lap before, he would not have changed much his speed, because of yellow flag, unless there was another car around him. Now, the rain could have been much stronger a lap later ... nobody will know, only him.

(CNN) —The family of Jules Bianchi, the Formula One racing driver who was critically injured at Sunday's Japanese Grand Prix, have revealed that he is suffering from a "diffuse axonal injury."

Bianchi family reveal F1 driver hasIt is a potentially devastating type of brain injury which causes widespread tearing of nerve fibers across the whole of the brain, according to the UK brain injury charity, Headway.

The 25-year-old Marussia driver remains in a critical but stable state, his family said in a statement released via the F1 team's official Facebook page.

"Jules remains in the Intensive Care Unit of the Mie General Medical Center in Yokkaichi. He has suffered a diffuse axonal injury and is in a critical but stable condition," the statement said.

"The medical professionals at the hospital are providing the very best treatment and care and we are grateful for everything they have done for Jules since his accident."

The Frenchman sustained his injuries after coming off the track and colliding with a recovery vehicle that was removing Adrian Sutil's Sauber car -- the German driver had skidded off the track at turn seven moments earlier in a rain-affected race.

"This is a very difficult time for our family, but the messages of support and affection for Jules from all over the world have been a source of great comfort to us. We would like to express our sincere appreciation," the statement said.

"We are also grateful for the presence of Professor Gerard Saillant, President of the FIA Medical Commission, and Professor Alessandro Frati, Neurosurgeon of the University of Rome La Sapienza, who has travelled to Japan at the request of Scuderia Ferrari.

"They arrived at the hospital today and met with the medical personnel responsible for Jules' treatment, in order to be fully informed of his clinical status so that they are able to advise the family.

"The hospital will continue to monitor and treat Jules and further medical updates will be provided when appropriate."

If his injury was purely from sudden deceleration (no external impact to the head) then it's hard to say he would have been any better off without that front end loader in the way. In the video, the distance from the point of impact to where he came to rest is the deceleration zone and it's not very different from the cushion space that would have been provided by the tire barrier. At that speed and angle, he could have been screwed either way.

Sutil's crash was identical to his, without his car and a loader in front of the barrier ... there's nobody who would disagree with the notion that he would walk it off, just like Sutil

Sutil's impact seemed to be at much lower speed and further down the track, so at more of an angle to the wall. His impact energy would have been far less than Bianchi's, regardless of whether Bianchi hit a tractor or the barrier. So given the space it took for his car to stop on impact with the tractor (maybe 4m?), his sudden stop would have been about the same either way.

BTW I'm not blaming Bianchi necessarily. There are other considerations like the decision to go local yellow, and the length of the yellow zone, the location of the wall and the gap in the wall, and so on. Just saying he was pretty screwed either way given his speed and angle.

I think you are wrong, because based on what I saw Sutil's crash happened within metres of Bianchi's. Speed difference? I have no clue, haven't seen any reports on that. But one thing should be certain .... These barriers are tested to withstand dry track speed collisions .... The speed the cars are doing when the track is dry in that corner is much higher, I believe. I will still say that he would walk away, should the darn loader not be in his path.

Could be wrong. Just going by the videos for each crash and don't see how Bianchi could have walked away IMO.

I have read that in the sector before the accident that 2 yellow flags were being waved.

Two waved yellows at the same post indicates great danger ahead. Drivers must slow down and be prepared to stop; no overtaking is permitted unless a driver is lapped.

I have read that the 2 towers before the accident were both 2 yellow flags.

Last corner he was pushing hard. Ultimately what put him into third with skid!
I'm a hamilton fan so I can't complain

I hear ya buddy, after last night what's a little skid? Anyway, let's not ruin this fine thread with CFL.

Booooooooring. This track is a joke. It's like watching Indy cars minus the goofy wheel covers.

Someone needs to break Herman Tilke's fingers.

Haha I can always rely on you for a laugh! Don't you have 7 bikes to attend to?!

Oh, you mean Lewis Hamilton! My bad, I thought you we're referencing Ticats snatching defeat from jaws of victory. That's funny.

First 2 laps had me thinking this was going to be one hell of a race. But sadly it has been anything but. Liked watching rosburgh trying to be a hero and lock up and having to box. One step closer for hamilton now !

I'd offer my services to quarterback for them, but I can't afford the cut in pay.
