F1 Thread!!!

So Honda signs up Brawn late last season to turn the struggling team around, then they close up shop due to hard economic times around the globe. Leaving the team out to dry? These guys didn't even know if they'd have a job this season up until a month ago. Couldn't have asked for a better outcome down under. 1-2 qualifying, 1-2 finish. Call it luck, call it a fluke, but I'll call it some damn good karma!

I was thinking, I wonder how Honda feels now, dumping the team and then they run roughshod over the competition!! I mean, they would have done just as well with Honda engines.. Wonder if they're regretting their decision..

Well it was a well known fact that Honda gave up on the 2008 season to develop *this* 2009 car.

Honda marches to its own beat, most times it doesn't make any sense why they make these decisions.

What a surprising first race. I seriously can't believe Brawn GP beat the usual front runners. Button definitely did well in Australia and clearly proved if he has a competitive car he can win races. Hamilton had a terrible qualifying session, so it's kinda surprising he finished as high up as he did. This is going to be an interesting season for sure.

Hamilton is an awesome talent. Lord knows where he's gonna end up in the records books after all is said and done..

Hey! At least they are consistent. I mean Honda did have Rosi first but then let him go even when he was winning:D:D

LOL , he's a wanker ! will never be a Senna or Shumi , he has just had a winning car from day 1 ! if you had bought the same expensive start/finish line tickets that i did last year at montreal and watched this fool punt Kimi out of the race , you wouldn't be so high on that kid . he's good , not great . with all the newness in F1 this year , it's a wildcard show for every race , no conviction for building legends .

So two days ago there was the Button cant drive crowd and now silence? come on guys, takes pole, leads for the win..... must be that fast reliable car they handed him... doesn't deserve it....

Oh and as a follow up:

Trulli was penalized for passing under yellows, so Hamilton finished 3rd

Vettel was penalized 10 starting positions for the accident with Kubica (um, wtf!?!?), and then was fined USD$50,000 for driving a car missing one wheel around half the track. Not a good day.

Being a great driver doesn't mean you never do stupid things!

My gut feeling is that for current drivers, Alonzo is the best, Hamilton is close, and a bit of seasoning will have Vettel up top as well. I love the passion Massa shows and no doubt he is one of the best.. I don't know if he is at quite the same level as Hamilton.

I'd love it it if it was up in the air for any given race as to which one of three of four drivers was likely to win.

so after one race, Trulli was penalized then not, then Hamilton was disqualified and there's a possibility he could be disqualified from the entire SEASON!, Vettel was punted 10 places for what looked to be a racing incident for the most part, and there's a controversy about diffusers

If F1 wants to cut costs, maybe they should stop racing and leaving it up to the courts to decide the results since thats what seems to end up happening anyway

Yeah, I didn't understand the Vettel thing. I mean, he had the inside racing line..that's a stupid move by Kubica I think trying to pass on the outside..he still had 3 laps to pass him. Vettel still could have made the corner if Kubica wasn't there. So I'm thinking bad luck, but no punishment should be dished out.

As for Hamilton, he was less than truthful about what happened..he deserves a DQ for that move. Why would they DQ him for the entire season though??

same reason they expelled McLaren in 2007, lieing.

I'd be interested in seeing the exact questions LH was asked post race

mcLaren just seems so dirty... first the spying now the lying... who knows what the real story is or whether they are innocent victims, but you got to wonder.. why are they always in the middle of the crap?...

go brawn go!!

casue Ferrari International Assistance lets stuff the other team do slip by cause they aren't Ferrari's main rivals

Actually they were excluded from the championship for cheating.

Anyways, new race this weekend. 5AM Sat Qualy, 5AM Sun Race!

Button on pole again. The Diffuser Three seem to be reaping the benefits of their controversial bits. Wonder if they'll rule them illegal? I've heard that Red Bull will have trouble integrating the bits because of their pull-rod rear suspension. They're going well too. Guess we can tell who the bright boys are in F1..Ross Brawn and Adrian Newey apparently.. :)

This is interesting, I was wondering if Button's performance last race was just a fluke. I guess not! Kinda refreshing not to see Ferrari/Mclaren leading.

JB has won once before so he has speed but needed luck in the last few yrs to place as the honda motor was a dogg in F1 .
i'm all for Ferrari but i do like how wild the field is now with all the newness ! i stayed up till 6 last night to watch Qualifing , amazing mistake by Ferrari to allow Massa to slide out in the 1st Q-sesh .
this year will be the most colourful in a long time , got to love it !
only thing that is bothering me is how the car's sound when the onboard shots are being shown , they sound awful compared to when the cars were running V10's .

Probably by the next race Mclaren and Ferrari will have caught up with the other teams in the design area and be back at the top.
