Eye surgery

There is an option! I have a crazy amount of astigmatism.. which is why I went to bochner eye institute. For our kind, there is a type of laser eye surgery called PRK. That's what I did. As for eyes being touched, they clamp your eyes open so don't worry about chickening out... at that point they already have your money... it's do or die.

Bochner eye institute and yonge eglinton laser centre were the only two places my optometrist recommended to me. He said all the other places send you to these guys when they screw up. Your eyes are worth every penny!

Great, so now I have no excuse... Gotta suck it up for 15 minutes I guess then eh? It would be awesome to see clearly out of my shooting eye.

I want to get this done but am way to queezy about about. Any chance they can just knock me out and do whatever they want?

Nope, you have to be able to focus on a little light so your eye is in the right position for the laser to burn off the proper area of the cornea.

Yep the doctor told me whatever you do, do NOT look away from the light. Stare into the light no matter what happens.

Bochner eye institute in toronto. Best money I spent. You won't regret it. Imagine the freedom!

I had it done at TLC in Waterloo recovery was a ***** (2 wks of eyes feeling like they are full of sand) but worth it in the end. Night vision is slightly better than when I wore contacts. My G/F also had it done and it took her longer to recover and her night vison is brutal (starring). Night vision is affected by pupil size and will not be good if your pupils are large no matter what they tell you.

My own Ophthalmologist has said that I should not have it done. I might eventually check if some of the places are greedy or not.

Hmmmm....:( Looks like I won't be able to get this done as long as I'm squeezie about eye surgery.

Like everyone has said, eyes are precious and I really don't feel like messing them up.

one is expendable. thats why we have two, and why i can't have it done.

two eyes is overrated.

Hey Ken, my better half just got this done about a month ago at LASIK MD. They offer two different types of lasik treatment. I believe it cost her around $4000 and she recommends it 100%.

To put it in perspective, you'd never see her without her glasses. After her surgery she donated them to charity.

Send me a PM if you have any questions.

Had eye surgery back in Jan of 2000 and havent looked back since. I didnt have any of the side effects that most got, and i was 20/20 by the following morning.
Had to wear Terminator style sunglasses for a few weeks, and stocked up on eye drops for like a year afterwards.

I jumped on an opening special in North York at the time, and paid $1200 ALL in. Needed it done anyways for the fire department ..

Eye surgery?

When u die, u're supposed to go to the light too, or else your soul will remain lost here forever :(

Had mine done a few years ago at Lasik MD. Cost me $2200 for both eyes, including some follow ups. Easiest, most painless experience ever! My sister and mom also had their eyes done at the same place, and all has been fine for them, too.

The initial consultation appointment was 1.5-2 hours long, being a very thorough exam of the eyes. I had astigmatism, and they told me about any issues I may have given my eye shape. On surgery day, the operation itself felt like 15 minutes, followed by an hour of monitoring. Went home, slept, and 4 hours later I was seeing as if I never had glasses.

In the end, I was corrected to 20/10 binocular vision, and it is AMAZING.

I've never understood how one place can be better, to the tune of thousands of dollars. They all use the same scans, similar machines, and the similar process. Look up the specs online of the laser equipment, and you will see how similar they all are. The doctor merely preps the eye, and the laser machine does the rest. It is very hands-off for the "surgeon".

The difference is life time warnanty. Meaning if years down the road you need surgery again you get it for free. Seening that we loose our eye sight as we age any ways... seems like a pretty sweet deal.

Good luck getting the warranty honored (read the conditions, miss one eye appointment ever and no more warranty)

Well my eyes aren't bad, but I m tired of missing the clear views of the world, missing my perfect vision. I've been told lasik would prob be what I need, and an all laser procedure is what I'd be looking at...

......

What's the reason that glasses don't correct your vision?

If glasses don't correct your vision, why do you think that surgery will?

Having just done PRK this past April and researched the hell out of it...
- first get a good eye doctor. Someone you can trust and get an somewhat unbiased opinion from. I say 'somewhat unbiased' because even eye doctors get compensated from Laser Eye clinics in many cases. Everyone greases everyone in this biz.
- Try to do as much research as possible BEFORE you go to the consultations so that you know the questions you need to ask. Doing some research before you see your eye doctor won't hurt either.
- Go to as many free consultations as possible. You'll be amazed what you learn and how some clinics skip out critical information and how others are great at explaining everything.
- Pick a clinic that you feel comfortable with and has highly reputable surgeons. eg. Bochner has a great reputation, but I wasn't impressed with the girl from the consultation so I chose another clinic to have my surgery done.
- Again, be as informed as possible and know the risks before hand. Look out for #1....you.

Having said all this, and even though my surgery went pretty good (night vision is not 100% yet), I have mixed feeling about laser eye surgery if it is just for cosmetic or convenience reasons. The 0.001% (or whatever it is) chance that something can go wrong (infections, malpractice, bad luck, etc) is too high of a risk in my opinion to chance your vision. After all my research, I still chose to do the surgery because I felt I would take the risk because of the career I want to get into. Decide for yourself and don't be easily talked into it.

Feel free to PM if you have any Q's. Good luck

I'm being given an option between Lasik and PRK.

I'm unsure which one to take. I have read a few reviews by some people who have had one eye with Lasik and the other with PRK.

Based on what i understand, people with Lasik have clearer vision (and healing is more immediate) vs. PRK and the longer heal time but the safer alternative for some professions, like military and police for fear of getting trauma to the eye.

I participate in a number of activities, but my concern is diving, so i'm slightly worried about what complications from Lasik might arise.

has anyone here who's had laser eye surgery dive as well?

FYI> normal circumstances most people get their " enhancements " within one year of having it done. Once you start aging, you will no longer qualify to be done again.

That is where most people think they can come back when they are 40 or 50 and get it re done. You cant.

I dive and have had no problems, I also used to dive with contacts and had no problems there either. LASIK is what I had done.
