Exercise, diseases, and COVID

Just for some context, I believe that number is based on BMI which is grossly inaccurate for healthy/active people.

Agreed. How many jacked bodybuilders/powerlifters do you think are in that category though? Personally I know 2 powerlifters, 3 if we count myself at one point, where we were classified as overweight from BMI. Everybody else I know would fit BMI measurements....including the casuals who think they don't but lift puny amounts and need to feed their ego so nobody wants to pop it <_< lol

You don't have to be huge to be in the overweight category according to BMI. At my height of 5'10, 175lbs drops me into "overweight". In any gym, probably half of the fit regulars would fall into overweight while being far from huge.

I'll admit my standards for fitness are not normal and abnormally high lol but I'd argue more than half the regulars are actually fat (change room, it literally shows.)

Now I'm curious, what do you consider fat? Bodyfat above 12-13%?

Just to give people an idea of what a false BMI overweight looks like. Jason Statham is 5'10, probably around 175-180lbs most of the time when he's not super lean.

He's obviously jacked lol. I don't have an objective percentage.

I'm talking about ppl who have stomachs sticking further out than their chest....kinda hard to hide that.

I am ashamed of what’s become of me with COVID and the sedentary lifestyle.

Need to get my bum in gear because the gut is growing faster than I care to admit. No excuses outside of laziness.

Isn't limoncello less harmful to gut growth than beer? Basement booze is part of the quest for health.
By that logic I should drink straight vodka. Limoncello is TONS of sugar (honey).

Mind you if I have one it’s like 1-2oz as it’s a tad stronger than beer.

I hear you.

My fiancee regularly reminds me about how I've shrank lol. I can't even make jokes about how most Asian men look like they would throw their significant others in front of them in a hostile situation because they're so small....I'd be making fun of myself :')

See, you're making progress already. Cut out the sugar and go straight for vodka or polish hooch. What is the polish equivalent to Tuica/Slibovitza? Every european country seems to have a native fruit hooch.

My problem, and it’s a problem, is I just love to eat.

For instance…I’m not hungry at all now. Like zero.

Wife just walked in with a bag of groceries from Costco and my first reaction is ‘oooooo….croissant…I like!’ So I ate one. Will probably have another one within an hour.

Maybe it’s a mental issue. I keep saying my MIL and wife should stop cooking delicious foods…I’d be thinner.

If I could self-control that ‘want’ of eating beyond being full I’d be way ahead and 75% of the work to lose weight would be done…but it’s just so good!

Do you smoke MJ? lol

Asking because that's one drug that makes me go crazy for all food.

Very rarely. So the answer is no. And if I do it’s late at night after the kids go to bed and I top up with water and rarely snack.

I honestly thinks it’s the sheer volume of food I take in, not late night snacking.

I guess the sunny side is you have two great family members cooking for you!

....I'm on day 4 of chili. Day 5 is tomorrow. It's starting to have no taste and feels like slime lol

My MIL doesn’t believe in leftovers. So we have a fresh new meal every day. I have to hide the potatoes so I can have them at lunch the next day sometimes.

Well of course if you keep fit you will be in a better shape both inside and outside to fight COVID. And sure we can argue that BMI is not a good estimate of healthy weight because of several factors, but to be in the category of obese and morbidly obese, there has to be something there. If we focus on that, 1 in 4 canadians are obese, for my height that's being over 200lbs. I can tell you when i was 210lbs i definitely was not in a good shape, i was still active, but i can't say i was a "healthy weight"

While it's flawed, for people who aren't really active, it can be an okay indicator, a bit like someone's arthritic pain can be an indicator of bad weather to come lol

so, based on the first post, if I go to the gym, I won't catch covid then right?

why did they lockdown gyms too?

start with running, its cheap and relatively easy if you start slow. If you stick to it, guaranteed you will drop pounds.

What about the grapefruitcello? I knew a couple of chicks that went on grapefruit diets.

One lost weight in sections. The other grew two grapefruit.
