Everyone wants a job, but nobody wants to work

Hmm.. I actually have a poli sci degree in undergrad.
No I did not have any 85 k prospects, but I did turn down a job at Customs before I went back to school. But I guess 62k back then might be closer to 85 now?

It's funny..I'm sure you'd understand, but a lot of people probably don't..the salary inflation that has occurred over the last 10-15 years is fairly substantial. I don't think people understand the salary distribution curve as it relates to the sunshine list for public employees. The media plays up the number of people cracking the $100k barrier but I can tell you, that number is going to go up substantially as the curve bumps up over the next year or two. $100k just isn't that much anymore. When I graduated from Uni I figured if you made $100k you owned PepsiCo..nowadays, bus drivers can make that.

Having said that, $75k-$100k for an entry-level job is a bit ridiculous..

Even by current standards, I think 75 k for an entry level job with just an undergrad degree to be extremely high. While I know they do exist, the % of ppl getting them are in one or two fields and only in the top of their class.
I don't think thats over the top for a graduate degree level job tho.

Not trolling by any means. Just thought that too many people are hiding behind the title 'student' these days as a excuse for getting up at 2PM, and playing minecraft all day.

Get off my lawn.

I have interviewed plenty of students, both at the undergraduate and the graduate level. Even hired some of them. People are free to have whatever expectations they want, but I know exactly how much one of those hires is worth in my organization.

One of the consequences of the "higher education for most people" perspective is that university grads are a dime a dozen. That drives their price down. Smart university grads are still pretty common. Smart university grads that are humble, fit in well with our culture and willing to learn - those are the ones that we hire. And they're the ones that will still be around in 5 years, doing well for themselves. The other ones? Good luck to them - hopefully they'll be working for our competitors.

Well said.

All play and no work, was a American mindset for decades and look what happened.

It's quickly becoming a Canadian mindset.

What is your starment based on?
isn't the GDP of America still higher than in Canada?
