Ever lost interest in riding?

Been riding for 3 years and have logged about 50K of riding in all sorts of situations (hail, rain, winds - conditions that would have drivers pulling over).

Up until a month ago I was really passionate about riding and motorcycles in general. I was planning out all the upgrades I wanted for my bike, I was riding at every opportunity etc.

In the past few weeks I've found that I just don't care anymore. I'm not sure what it is... I'd still want to own a dirt bike no matter what, but in regards to street riding I'm just not that excited anymore. Perhaps I'm discouraged by the amount of accidents I've heard about, or the performance achievable on the street isn't enough for me anymore.

Has anybody here ever lost interest in street riding in the past? If so, for how long? Any idea why?

Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences.

Just riding on the streets, around town would wear down on me. Touring, travelling, getting out to places I have never seen before. Thats what really excites me about riding. I love riding in general, and do as much as I can, rain or shine. But its touring that does it for me.

+1
I love riding and it why I commute rain or shine on my bike.
But city driving and commuting get tiredsome after awhile if you don't get some back road riding and adventures in.

+1 to that

I've become annoyed, upset and generally fustrated at riding sometimes, but the craving always comes back

agreed. general street riding does not motivate me. Day trips, and desolate roads are what get me going. I'm also going to try track next year for a completely different experience.

its just PMS ... happens every year ... wait until the spring comes

Yup...Left for six years after watching a buddy loose a leg. Was sheared off above the knee cap on a no parking sign. Pretty graphic but a wake up call as to my maturity level when riding. Now that i'm back it's almost like i'm a new rider again. At the beginning of the season I tended to be over cautious but have slowly been getting my confidence back. One thing I can say is don't get rid of all your gear if you are thinking of leaving. I had some pretty costly and high end stuff and it's now become a big investment to get back to that level of gear.

It's hard to say.
In cages, yeah you lost alot of interest.

That's why you try something new!
New bike! I'm sure it would get back to you.

When I get bored I buy a new bike. Keeps the experience fresh.

But if you're always riding the same roads and same towns it's bound to get stale. When I ride in the city I find I'm more aggressive and hooliganish just to keep it fun. If there's no new scenery, only wheelies and ramps will bring you joy ;)

I have lost interest in riding on the street.

A few times a year I kind of get the itch to go for a ride out in the country on a warm clear summer night with a full moon... but it's rare.

Yep, when I started going out and meeting chicks I hated carrying all my gear. Especially in winter when it rained. My bike died and I went for a car - that was two decades ago, in a country where street motorcycling riding was a means of transportation rather than a "sport"..

Got back into it here to help keep my commute fun . Weekend warrior is not a top priority, but enjoyed when I can.

This year/season has been really really busy and has cut into my riding big time....but riding to work that 10 mins it takes, is the best time of my day. Think if I lived in a big city riding could be ho hum after awhile...livin in a smaller town and the country side is 5 mins away keeps me happy.

I got side tracked by a few mechanical issues this year and after I got the bike fixed up I just got lazy. LOL.

I got even lazier after I managed to pass my M2 exit test.

We'll see how things look in the spring....but I think I'm just bored of my bike. I may be one of those "new bike every season" guys...which sucks for my wallet.

I was psyched about riding since i got my m2 this summer, but now after reading this thread if have suddenly lost all interest. Damn you!

dont worry it will come back in the spring, its just withdraw from the seasonal blues. i feel it sometimes, mid-season, im tired of working on everyone elses $hitbox.

If you are bored of the same old streets - mix it up once in a while and try a few track days !
Or a road trip to The Gap !

Yeah, you have to be so careful and cautious on the street, it's not that enjoyable anymore.

Take break, life is long, you won't miss out anything. But you will come back.
As others have said, country roads are a different ball game from riding in the city or suburbs.
You stop thinking so much about danger from other drivers and much more on your own skills and the condition of the road in front of you. Most importantly, there is time to think and look around and enjoy the view without having to be so defensive.

This past spring and early summer I lost interest because I was getting heavy duty into cycling. There seemed almost no point in commuting to work on the bike for an 8-minute ride when I could commute by bicycle, getting some exercise and saving on gas. Eventually I forced myself onto the bike for a few day rides and caught the bug again. And then the bicycles became neglected. :D
