Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

If detectives come knocking at your door - do you guys let them into your home to view the footage or no?
100% no. Never. If they want footage, I will provide it to them asap but I am copying it to a clean USB key and handing it to them. Friends get invited inside. People working jobs outside of my house don't get invited in.

FWIW, I also don't participate in the database where you tell your cops everything your cameras can see. That could be used by bad cops for evil as it makes it simpler to find holes in surveillance.

Recently my good friend and neighbors X5 got stolen off his driveway. My cameras caught it all.
Cop came in to my house to view it and also took the footage. I have nothing to hide.

I have heard of some scary stories about things going missing from the house, even after the outside work is done.

Can't remember who, but someone recreantly told me that they had they had some expansive motorcycle gear grow legs and walk out the their garage. Shortly after the work around the house was done. Coincidence???

My neighbors snitch on me whenever cops come around asking for footage lol. I'm also one of the only houses with bright motion/heat detector security flood lights.
Maybe next time I'll reconsider allowing them in - granted I have nothing to hide either but its not worth the risk should they decide to otherwise.

This is the first for having cops ask if I have footage , if an event happens again I’m moving . In 4 yrs here this is a first . Yes people get shot in nice neighborhoods , but I’ll be moving back to the country . Not near anybody .

My sister gets asked for footage from her cameras regularly. And she lives on Indian rd just off Mississauga Rd.

She said people get robbed and assaulted regularly. Break ins and stolen cars are very frequent.

It’s a beautiful neighbourhood but I was shocked when I heard a couple got attacked with a golf club on the walking trail nearby.

Cops asked us for footage recently, which was weird because we don’t actually have cameras.

I like and use the turret style cameras:

I clean them once a year and spray some wax or sealant on the lenses to help keep them clean throughout winter.

7 years now and still going strong!

On a side note, I hear that in South Africa home owners have started using remote turrets lol.

I thought I would never be that guy , but I’m getting cameras . A remote gun would be even more handy but we are a little more firm than South Africa about those things . I’ll be doing some homework this week .

Funny when a neighbour had a car stolen police didn’t even want to see the existing camera footage . Shoot somebody and they want cameras . So I’ll help you do your job when convenient……

Hey curious what do you mean about heat detector, like a body heat, or any kind of sources, infra red?
I could possibly use something like that.

I use 10 x HZ-5838 model - installed all around the house:

So when it senses any sudden change in temperature for the zone it monitors, it goes active.
You can set the sensitivity, time etc based on your preference.

Oh I know, but to start it will be what people will find.

I have a home server NAS and wired network for everything, which I built. But not everyone can roll their own and want something that works. Which is why I believe Bell and Rogers offer these services. But working dealing with those devils has their own pain points.
Isn't that like hiring bandits to protect you from thieves?

Should this crack be sealed up with anything? It’s part of a form for a garage (no basement underneath, just a gravel fill with a pad poured on top).

I wouldn't worry about it much, but there are epoxies that you can use to seal these types of cracks.

If you're REALLY concerned you can do a full drill and fill project where you drill at about a 45deg angle, then inject the polyurethane with a packer and it'll seal it very well.

Not cheap. Messy. But should eliminate most of the worries.

Also, the crack is going into the ground, so you'll have to dig down, find the end of it, and start the drill fill from there moving up.

We usually grout / fill from the bottom up to get rid of the water, but in this case...I wouldn't be too worried.

Each product has different applications, but SIKA has good product. Your other options are MAPEI, GeoForm, BASF, etc.
